The EU used debt run up by the Greek government to smash through their 'reforms'. The Greek people paid for the crisis with their health and sometimes their lives. It was a monstrous act of terrorism carried out by the EU....and the treatment of the Greeks made Brexit all the more appealing to Britons, btw.
Citizens suffer for the inept politicians they elect
The same happened in Ireland
The same will happen in the UK

Indeed. It was an absolute disgrace. Something needed to be done with Greece because they had indeed lost the plot, but it was brutal and self serving to both German and French banks.....the Greeks are still a basket case and cannot walk away, but I wouldn’t be surprised if their previous, near two hundred year, relationship with Russia will now re-develop.....

A slightly blunt explanation, to say the least.

I am no apologist for the EU, nor the Euro, (which was the root cause of Greece's woes), but they (Greece) lied to join the Euro, borrowed like nuts using the new credit rating membership meant they enjoyed, and the chicks came home to roost.

...so the root issue was with the EU not doing their due dilligence on Greece.

In business, a period of due diligence usually determines if anyone is cooking the books or telling porkies. I would have thought that the EU may have done something similar so it can’t really just be the fault of Greece. The EU has previously shown that it can cover one eye when it is politically expedient.....

Indeed, but the French and German banks providing the money didn’t really care either......

The problem was having no central economic policy nor budget for a single currency. Over night, the credit ratings for Greece, Spain, Portugal and ROI were the same as Germany.

But anyrate, the Euro has never been a UK issue, thank goodness.

It wasn’t so much the credit ratings, as these still vary for all EU countries, it was more about having a currency as strong as Germany and no method to devalue when needed...either way, as you say, not a U.K. issue....

If I am honest wuth you Dave, I wouldn’t have thought the plight of the Greeks crossed the mind of yer average Leave voter in the Referendum.

They were too busy being taken Farage’s lies about £350 million per week for the NHS and immigration and Rees Migg harking back to Crecy and Agincourt to actually weigh up the pros and cons of the EU.
