This is not an ‘English’ thing. This is a U.K. matter.......

Actually you are right, Pete.....now I come to think of it.

It is not an “English” thing.

Nor indeed is it a “U.K.” thing.

It is a “Tory” thing.

The Tories in the early years of the last century played the “Orange card” to make mischief for Asquith’s Liberal government of the day, which itself was making sterling efforts to resolve Ireland’s centuries old problem with Britain by introducing the Home Rule Bill.

And in this they were seventy odd years ahead of their time....Home Rule had come to Scotland and Wakes by the end if the century.

And now the right wing, Euro hating Tories are again playing the Orange card by enciuraging their attack dogs in the DUP to rattle sabres about voting the government down and using threatening analogies about “blood” red lines if they don’t get their way.

Back to the future with the Tory John Bull Brigade.

As @Emlynsqueakyvoice said above: bung these cowboys another £2B and they'll STFU.
I'm not so sure about that as I said above. This is about what they see as the beginning of a slippery slope towards a united Ireland and their raison d'etre is to stop that happening, which no amount of money will assuage. Either way all will be revealed soon enough.

It does raise a serious issue. If the U.K. reaches out and improves trade with the rest of the world, as I fully expect we will, will NI be denied the opportunity to be involved because they are shackled to the EU ?.......

I dont think that will be the case. The DUP are struggling to make this an issue but its symbolism they're more concerned with, not material differences between NI and Britain. They dont want to open themselves up to the view that they've agred to a slippery slope that ends in a United Ireland.

They have to learn to understand that being on the island of Ireland makes things different for them unless a Hard Brexit is the outcome...which it wont be.

Just posted a qualification above that underlines what you wrote here.

I don’t believe this is a Tory thing at all. The U.K. is leaving the EU, we had a vote. NI, like Scotland wanted to stay, and no doubt many unionists voted to stay. It was not a vote to leave the U.K., just like Scotland didn’t vote to leave the U.K. The DUP are almost certainly playing to an agenda, but they have a perfect right to do so, SF do exactly the same. But it is their agenda, no one else’s......

Come on, you have no opinion on who you think shout lead the UK through Brexit?

I thought you were on about Foster and the DUP. I always thought May should lead the U.K. out of the EU, but I now fear she has been mugged by the Remainers in the cabinet. I would rather Boris or David Davis take over ......

After all the crap NI has been through it baffles me how anyone could oppose NI remaining in the UK while being part of the EU common market. It's a golden ticket!

It depends on how you look at it I suppose.......how could anyone oppose the ROI remaining in the EU while being part of the U.K. Its a golden ticket. It’s just not an acceptable political position.......
