Have you ever come across a book written by a feller in the National Front about (or included) Liverpool in the 70s? I browsed through it in Central Library years ago (it was in the reference section and you couldn't get it out). Anyway, in it he talks of recruiting around Everton (the district) at the time and making a few converts with blues who were also skinheads. I've googled and cant for the life of me remember the title. Interesting book about the kind of micro-cultures that exist even within a city.
Is it the Joey Owens one, pain and plenty of it?
I have read it, you can read most of it on Google free by the way.
Despite the rep for being a racist club you would have been lucky to get a dozen lout of the lads that were active in that scene, most of them only briefly ,well the ones I knew anyway, not going to name them obviously as it's a life time ago.
There were racist incident's , but it's been done to death so not worth going over again.
The book is poorly written by the way, not that I can say anything on that score, but there is a story in there , he should have gotten help to write it ,he has a really interesting story to tell , goes on about the door scene most of the book , but if you were around at the time you can get the jist of what was going on at the time.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said Mrs May told him she would make new proposals on the border but presented nothing in writing.

Mr Varadkar said other states offered him their full support in Brexit talks.

"All of the EU leaders ... gave me their absolute support in standing behind Ireland, saying that an agreement that doesn't work for Ireland, doesn't work for the EU," he said.

"There will be no withdrawal agreement without an Irish protocol."

Over to you Teresa. Again.

It's not looking good:

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has delivered a downbeat assessment of the Brexit negotiations as he arrived for an informal dinner of EU leaders in Salzburg.

Mr Varadkar told reporters: "I don’t think we’re any closer to a withdrawal agreement than we were in March. So I can't report any progress at this stage unfortunately, but we’ll keep working on it."

Dismissing suggestions there had been progress in recent weeks on the Irish backstop, the Taoiseach said the UK still had to present an alternative text to the EU's initial draft, which was rejected by Prime Minister Theresa May in March.

"We’ve yet to see an alternative text from the United Kingdom government that anybody in the European Union finds to be acceptable, that actually satisfies what we need, which is an assurance that there won’t be a hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland, and that that backstop would apply unless and until we’re in a position to negotiate a new free trade agreement between the EU and UK."

He added: "The Irish position and the position of the European Union is as it has been from the very start. It’s that we want there to be a Withdrawal Agreement, a Withdrawal Agreement that provides for an orderly exit of the UK from the European Union.

"And we want there to be a transition period so people can adjust to any changes to the rules of trade that are going to take place."

Mr Varadkar said: "But we also have to have a backstop on NI and Ireland, one that assures us that a hard border will not emerge on our island, and that it has to be legally operable, and at this stage unfortunately the UK has not presented an alternative text to the EU text that we find acceptable."

Mr Varadkar insisted an agreement in principle on the backstop needed to be in place by the October European Council.

"I wouldn’t like to see it run into November or December, because that would create a lot of uncertainty for citizens and for business too."

He said the UK would have to move on its position.

If not, he said, "I don’t think anybody wants to contemplate a no deal scenario. I don’t believe a no deal scenario is where we’re heading. But certainly Ireland is prepared for it. We’re already started the process of hiring hundreds of people to staff our ports and airports.

"We’ve also started to approve the IT systems, the infrastructure that may need to be in place. I want to emphasise that’s for ports and airports on east/west trade. We’re not making any preparations for any form of hard border between north and south.

"Ireland would very much suffer in a no deal scenario. We don’t want that to happen. I think the UK would suffer a lot as well. And I think that’s why we need to redouble our efforts to aim to have an agreement in principle in October in the Withdrawal Agreement, on the Irish and Northern Ireland Protocol, and then use the period after that to draft the joint political declaration on the future relationship.

"But I think if any sense has been created that any form of significant progress has been made in the last couple of weeks, unfortunately that is not the case."

At the dinner this evening, Theresa May is expected to explain further her "Chequers" proposal. But she is also expected to firmly rule out the Commission’s latest suggestions on dedramatising the backstop.

Both leaders will hold a bilateral meeting in Salzburg tomorrow morning.

Hahahaha......when the big boys get close to a sensible deal, Ireland and its Taoiseach will be thrown in the bin.....

I think he was going to write it with Graeme Johnson who did Stephen french’s And a few books on Liverpool crime but they had a bit of a falling out . Joey Owens was regularly in Rigbys in town .

No mate. I just googled that bouncer's book and that defo isn't the book I mean. I looked on the Liverpool library website and cant see it either.

Anyway, it was written in a matter of fact, non-showy way with the feller basically underlinging that they tried recruitment in the usual haunts you'd exoect there to be a good reception in Liverpool for far right politics (the old Orange Order dominated places) and amongst footy fans but it was a losing battle. Wish I could remember the name for you. If I think on I'll let you know.

Ta mate , be interested in that, Joey Owens book goes on about his right wing activity in Liverpool , so thought it might have been that one,
Hopefully somebody will know it's name.

May's in big trouble over her attempt not commit anything tangible with the border on the island of Ireland, before the Tory conference. She's tried to play for time and it backfired. Border at the Irish sea at Belfast, which already checks goods or NI goods sent to Dublin to be checked by EU/Irish inspections. Either way NI looks like special status which May would have agreed to if she wasn't relying on the DUP for political survival. Trade across the border by companies there will continue as now.

No matter what May agrees or doesn't agree, the spanner in the works will be the Counter Terrorism and Border Security checks within a mile of the border, taking back control. Which has been designed as a backstop to comply with WTO rules or to punish Ireland for not giving way, - allowing a hard borde/UK taking back control- over the border issue.

If there does happen to be border checks on the island of Ireland, the UK will get the blame. The voices wanting a unification vote will become more widespread. May is unsure the outcome of such a vote and may be forced by events and allow NI to be a special case or keep the whole UK in the customs union and single market.

The Tories best chance for a 'good deal' has passed and they are looking more and more incompetent and incapable of stopping the open civil war in the Tory party. May is only being kept afloat by the DUP and the EU who have bent over backwards to allow her time to put forward real proposals that work. They don't want an election as they don't like Corbyn's nationalisation agenda which will hit German and French companies. But time has now run out and May is just a lame duck. Roll on the election and a border poll.

I think both books have merged in my head into one, hullefc I have read one on my Kindle recently.
But I read one on line the full draft was on there on some Google reads type set up,ages ago got it into my head they are the same book.sign of age creeping up on me

Similar to Hoey's, Rees Mogg, Johnson, the DUP etc. They can't stand it when the Irish government puts its own interest first instead of the UKs. Theyve plotted their revenge.
Within 2 years by referendum either a United republic Of Ireland or federal Republic of Ireland .
Scotland next or together
