I think it's what you define as 'major': a conventional strike against US forces or assets? Very, very unlikely. A proxy strike against US assets? Much more likely.

It might not come straight away or even in the next few weeks, but there alliances (less nations and more militias) will be used to some extent to retaliate.

I suspect it may not be military personnel who face the brunt of this: it'll be softer targets that the incite and outrage the public.

Some innocent people from this country might be blown out of the skies...but what the hey....
 
I wouldn't rule out the Israeli apartheid state using the opportunity to attack Iran in what could be Trumps final 10 months in power.

What did they do? All I remember is they sued America and won millions for it. Don't remember any military response

"middle -east armies" They're not all the same you know.
Iranians are not Arabs, as Persians they are a different race and they have a military history going back 4000 years.

I’d be surprised if they did go after members of the US (or Western) public; as you say it would provoke outrage here and TBH it isn’t really their style to respond to a targeted attack like this with random acts of violence against civilians (previous attacks on civilians have usually been in response to civilian casualties of their own).

Attacks on military or diplomatic targets are more likely, but most likely of all is a targeted attack in return, probably on someone who would not get universal support in the US but for whom the response to their death would further split the country (so a member of the Trump family or administration).
