First, if the US does not unilaterally rip up the international agreement with Iran regarding nuclear weapons and impose sanctions not only on Iran but secondary sanctions on countries who do business with Iran then there is no reason to believe there would be this level of tension.

Secondly, if the Administration has evidence the Iranians were plotting attacks on US forces then there is no reason to withhold such information from Congress or our allies prior to acting.

Thirdly, assassinating QS cannot be seen in any other way than a declaration of war by the US against Iran. It's not logical to claim this action is preventative when the clear effect of this action will be retaliation.

Lastly, Trump is a fool and he is going to get Americans killed due to his foolishness (cue his bravado about war with Iran that conjures memory of Chaney and Rumsfeld regarding Iraq).

The naiveity of you is something foolish. Apart from the sanctions in the first paragraph everything you go on about is just wrong. Btw, not a Trump fan but he tried to extricate us from Syria and that went horribly wrong.

And he'd probably have people like you complaining. I would love to not have anything to do with that region, and it's bigger than oil.

Unfortunately we all have to deal with them. They're nothing more than a bunch of gangs out there. Those involved in all these proxy wars and political posturing I'm talking about. I know a ton of innocent people are forced to deal with this crap.

But this dude was trying to be a gangster and control a block and he got what was coming. The whole region is just one big gang war, it's awful.

Save your righteousness sweety.
Oh, I'll do so as soon as you do darlin'.

Why do you insist on repeating you are not a Trump fan? This action would be rightly seen as unnecessarily provocative and dangerous regardless who occupied the WH.

Saying I'm talking out my ass or wrong would be interesting at all if you explained how or why. But you haven't. You've just been a dick.

The US Embassy has advised all US citizens to leave Iraq ‘immediately’, so I suspect they feel there will be acts of retribution coming very shortly.

That would be the traditional response, but this is so massive (both in terms of the target and the method of attack) that they might well think that the proper response is to go after someone close to Trump or Trump himself.

‘You’re all warmongers!’ Claim the people clamouring for this to be the Casus Belli for WW3.

Be forgotten in a week.

This bloke may have deserved what was coming to him but this is out and out lunacy. Hard to see how it doesn't escalate from here and all from a president who said he wouldn't get involved in foreign wars etc. Can't believe he lied. :hayee:

Iran is far stronger than any actor in Middle East, so USA will not go active war with them, even if they were to be victorious it would be with huge cost, we are not talking about religiously fragmented Iraq or this is not your Libya with 1K tribes, Iran has always been a tough empire to handle in history

Can't help but think that this ain't going to go well. Not well at all. Every time you poke at something in the middle east, it pokes out to affect other areas, normally with dire consequences.

Just read on twitter he was the worlds number one bad guy.

Have they found them weapons of mass destruction yet in Iraq?
They'll be there when we launch them. This I hope does not happen, but we have a couple of utter trumpets in Trump and Johnson (and I'm fairly sure that Macron would jump at the chance to get into a willy waving competition too) so who knows?

A very depressing state of affairs. Happy 2020 everybody.

They've had to hold their own as a predominately Persian nation, while being surrounded to the west by predominately Arabic nations and Pakistan etc. to the east.

I really can't see this ending well because it's naive to believe that Iran will not react, and it will then boil down to how the US (and others) deal with the response.

We really don't want a mass escalation of events, but it could quite easily spiral to some form of military action.

Turkey IMO will be key, not Arabic nation but a sunni one, (as opposed to Farsi shia) I am curious which side their govt will take, a NATO ally or their dangerous neighbour (they share a quite long of a border in their east) a mass destruction of Iran would cause a lot of problems for them, incoming war refugees etc. They won't like the idea of kneeled down Iran
