This really...it’s just over 40 years since the Iranian ‘students’ occupied the US Embassy in Iran...the Iranians absolutely embarrassed Carter to the extent of holding up the flight of hostages out of the country until Reagan became President. They only respect force.....
And it’s almost 70 years since the US and UK overthrew a democratically elected Iranian government and replaced it with with a crackpot dictator who would give them unlimited access to their oil.

Good overview from Craig Murray.

UK quick to point out that we knew nothing about this US strike and therefore can not be blamed for it.

Could get extremely messy this with the Russians being an ally of Iran.

I think Boris might be distancing himself from Trump for a while.

The odds on a Trump execution attempt must be shortening too.

Russia is not an ally if Iran. They sell them weapons.

Do people honestly think Russia would get involved??

Iran is a dangerous country in terms of its propaganda and its potential to inflict damage to local and regional economies through terrorism. Every single generation that grows up in Iran is taught to hate America. Unfortunately, Western foreign policies over recent decades have been the vehicle through which Iran has been able to grow its influence into Palestine, Iraq, Yemen and others. Taking out Saddam was the stupidest thing we ever did. The last remaining checks in the region are Saudi and Israel and these two just don't have the military might or resources to contain this Iran situation. Good on the American's for taking action against terrorists. That being said this is likely a one-off measure. The long-term plan can only be sanctions and trying to destabilise the regime.

And America isn't a dangerous country in terms of its propaganda to inflict damage to local and regional economies through imperialism and hatred of left leaning governments? Chile, El salvador, Nicuragua, Cuba, support for the Argentinian junta, to name but a few. Saudi arabia are currently bombing Yemen into oblivion with weapons supplied by the US and Britain, and as for Israel? They are itching to make the first move against Iran with guaranteed USA support. Iran is held up by the USA as the great satan.....fortunately not all of our American brothers and sisters subscribe to this view,

I can deny this from first hand, visited Iran in the summer of 2015 for two weeks, met lots of people who hate their govt, secretly make alcohol at their place and spend time with their gfs/bfs. Young ones dont hate US by any means, they are watching western shows/films by using VPN and thinking all this "evil west" propaganda is a BS from highest order.

Let’s be honest here....American policy and military interventions in the Middle East over the course of the last half century make that “hate” very easy to be “taught”.

I can echo this. I was there in 2010 and 2012. Iranian people are no different to any other. The hatred of America, Israel, The West is political and not public. Iranian people are always quick to distinguish between people and governments. They don’t like the actions of certain governments but their people are welcome.

Well said...I think this may be true of the majority of people on this planet.....politicians divide us (or try to) ...sometimes they succeed with horrible consequences as a result of failed dogma and ideologies, yes we have differences, be they cultural, religious etc but I guarantee we have more in common as ordinary human beings, when you take away all the barriers created by power hungry politicians whichever side of the left/right they profess to support.

Iran had it coming, they've been poking the tiger that is the US for too long, I think the US have shown restraint up till now, I have no doubts whatsoever that they have intelligence he was planning more attacks.

If you orchestrate an attack on a US Embassy then that is an attack on US soil it's as simple as that, expect a response if you do.
More of a petulant wave goodbye to American influence in Iraq. And how Trump squares the mantra of no more foreign milatray interventions which his fanbase adores will be interesting in an election year...

Except they are taught this. "Death to America" is a constantly chanted political slogan in Iran and has been for some 40 years. They have a national death to America day. It is reportedly chanted at Friday prayers regularly. That not all of the populace are successfully brainwashed by it doesn't mean that these forces don't exist or that isn't a pivotal aim for the regime to maintain its power.

In response to others views, I am well aware of the history of the US and its Allies in the Middle East as well as elsewhere. I have also met dozens of Iranians in the UK and they seem very reasonable people. I did not suggest that they were not.
