I believe Moyes did a great job in his first 5 years, Made his name, Made his reputation, then spent the rest of his tenure doing his best not to tarnish that by the playing not to lose mentality ..... Ie If we were lucky to get the 1st goal, just hang on, defend at all costs which inevitably did not work out with last minute equalisers or against the so called better teams getting 2. Moyes lost it in 2009 Chelsea final for me. An early goal up then he froze, same in the Semi against the other lot. I believe on current showings Martinez would not lose those type of games or if he did it would not be in the pitiful surrendering tactical way Moyes deployed his teams in those games.
Have to agree.
It's all good having a go at Moyes, but it was never a case of what he did or what he could do...it was always a case of taking the next step. He clearly hit a wall with us over the past 2 seasons and couldn't
Money will get you into that top 4. I'll be amazed if we get it. Stunned even. But if we don't we're technically back to where we started albeit playing wonderful football.
Martinez is pure positive energy around the place. But it'll have ups and downs and struggles. If a team who have spent millions and have a big squad have them, don't expect a team like us not to get them along the way.
The big difference is the belief that we could win a goblet. Which is all that I want and most fans want. With Moyes you were never 100% as the money factor always hung over us. Getting done 2-1 in an FA Cup final by world class players on the park like Drogba, Lampard etc against Tony Hibbert and Phil Neville is always was always met with a shrug of the shoulders and a "well, if we had spent x on x then we would've had that extra"
But with Martinez, he's got the players and fans thinking they can beat anyone. And that might just get us over the line than spending £20million on a Spanish striker who only scores penalties (for eg).
I think the main problem with/for moyes was how long he was here and how long he was fighting with No money. Don't forget he started off very positive, said the same things as RM in regards to having to do it a different way etc. He did do it tbf he got us in the CL, he also got us on the cusp of the top 4, most years we were always best of the rest!
I honestly think he just got tired of trying to do it. He slipped into a mentality of believing it couldn't be done without money. He got stuck in a rutt, and believed the grass was greener! He also didn't know how to build different teams, all his teams were very simlar, they were always improving on the last one but always in a moyes style.
A few years back you could just see the change in him. The fire went from his belly! As I said he gave up when all he needed to do was take a whole fresh approach, a change of style, anything that got the fire back in the belly.
Don't forget the core of this club and team was built by moyes.....he's not all bad.
And utd are screwing him over big time to boot!
lol Well at least there's one new thing in there... using Coleman's low transfer fee to have a go at Moyes, even Davek, Nigel and Khelevan didn't think of that one![]()
