From the OS - Quick Return For Cahill? – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com – The Official Website of Everton Football Club
Summary -
Timmy should be fit for the Wigan game if nothing happens during the internationals.
Yobo is 3 weeks off.
Jimmy Vaughan and Nuno have hit full training on Monday. I think they'll be ready mid-April which is good.
Hibbo should be back in 2 weeks or so.
Pienaar's off with the South African national side so here's hoping he dont get injured.
Tim Cahill should be fit ahead of Everton's game against Wigan Athletic a week on Sunday.
The attack-minded midfielder missed Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Portsmouth due to a calf strain picked up in the previous weekend's 3-1 win over Stoke City.
But Cahill has now flown to Australia to link up with his national squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Ubezkistan on April 1.
Speaking exclusively to evertonTV, Toffees' head physio Mick Rathbone said he is hopeful the 29-year-old will be back to full speed in time for the visit of the Latics.
"He (Tim) picked up a calf strain in the first half of the game against Stoke, so we took him off at half time," he said. "He didn't recover in time for Portsmouth though. It's difficult because we've got a lot of injuries and it's so tempting to chuck the players back in too soon.
"Obviously he's gone away with the Australian guys. They'll evaluate it over there and hopefully he'll come back and be available for the Wigan game.
"It wasn't such a serious injury but muscle strains take time. I know the Australian medical people well, and I know they'll look after him in the right way."
The news is also positive for Joseph Yobo.
The centre back is facing a race to be fit for Everton's FA Cup semi-final showdown with Manchester United on April 19 after suffering a hamstring strain in training.
Rathbone is quietly confident it's a race he can win.
"He's still three weeks away but Joseph's hamstring's not so bad," he said. "If there's a good time to injure your hamstring, it's during the international break, I suppose.
"By the time Everton get back to action again he should be out running with me, so hopefully we can shave a bit of time off and get him back sooner rather than later."
Striker James Vaughan and defender Nuno Valente have now returned to full training and were put through their paces by reserve-team boss Andy Holden on Monday morning.
Right back Tony Hibbert is also closing in on a return, with Rathbone expecting him back in full training within the next seven to eight days.
"Tony's doing well," he added. "It was quite a bad thigh strain. He's 23 days into it and we talked about four to six weeks, so he's making good progress. Hopefully he will train towards the middle of next week."
Steven Pienaar, who took a painful blow to the back during the game at Portsmouth, has joined up with South Africa and should feature in their scheduled friendlies against Norway and Portugal.
