• Promising but mature-ish left-back - Fabra might be the one, to compete and replace Baines
• Midfield - no idea what to do here: Schneiderlin has quality but is a snake, Gueye is quality when used correctly, Davies has potential, Klassan under the right manager would thrive, Rooney is just a liability and should be back-up to Gylfi and Vlasic in the number 10 role only. Over to you Marco and Marcel!
• Striker - still think we need another one to compete with Tosun and Niasse (backup)

So you only really need to add 3 or 4 solid players and the team is competitive. Need a LB to faze into the starting XI, a LCB to start immediately, and a CM who can carry the ball, and his also a physical presence. If Onyekuru does get a WP we'll need another option on the wings too.

Realistically, you’d keep all the lads not in the sell list, leaving you with 21 players.

What’s truly frightening, is that apart from Rooney, NONE of the lads in that sell list have contributed anything meaningful all season (nor impressed out on loan). You’d be hard pushed to say we’d miss a single one of them.

That tells me that our squad is incredibly bloated and lacking quality. We could keep 21 players, sign 5 or 6, and be spot on for next year.

Oh and keep Onyekuru of course, and punt Mangala if he’s anywhere near our squad.

..I wouldn’t be keen on further loan spells for the likes of Dowell. It seems pointless to me. A decision needs to be made on whether he stays or goes.

The aim should always be to bring in better than you have, so lots will depend on who comes in and where that leaves the others in the pecking order.
