He is doing an OK job most of the time but he definitely lacks football IQ, never thinks of key passes.
There was a possession where he was available to pass to Cenk, that would make Cenk alone in front of the goalie, but he simply couldnt think of it and kept the ball. Tosun was furious afterwards. We need this kind of clever feeding from the Midfielders to score.
I am talking about this. He kept the ball and didn't even realize Cenk, IMO he is not doing his job properly.

He actually reads the game well. Thats how he’s able to intercept what he does. He was never a creative player and shouldn’t be asked to be. If you let him play his game break up the opposition play and find the feet of someone more creative there are few better anywhere. We don’t really have any good ball players around him though.
Oh, and I also base it on the fact that all our other midfielders are plop. Davies has been really bad this year. Rooney is pointless in midfield and is like playing a man down. Snides is well, Snides. Beni is like Gana light.

Runs and runs and runs. By his own admission he does not score goals. From observation he rarely finds a forward pass. So why do some people rate him? Maybe in a poor team like ours his limitations are found out. In a very good team he might have a role to play just doing what he does well.
Needs to play better passes. Very frustrating player but he at least create a base yesterday.

He's good if just given one role & job to do, you need a player like this, energetic and destructive. He would look good alongside two ball players and not slugs like Morgan and Rooney.

the hyperbole with this lad is like nothing I've ever seen, apparently he would look good if he had two proper midfielders next to him, so he needs carrying to do the actual football work, while he runs around out of position pulling slideys

Gana and McCarthy are two of the most over rated players I've known by our own fans.
as long as they can make crap jokes like, he's jogging to the away ground as a warm up blah blah blah, I prefer midfielders who enjoy having the ball myself
