Literally this, his job isn’t distribution and driving forward with the ball.

He should be intercepting/jockeying and ultimately tackling the opposition, and by the time he’s done that we should have someone who’s job is to make splitting passes and runs back, for Gana to lay the ball off to. We just don’t have one of those players.

They're similar players with similar skillset and stats. One has players that can construct attacks around him and one has a former forward that seems to be on satellite delay some games or a French coward that hasn't sweated since his last holiday.

Kante is quicker, a superior athlete, has much better technique, way better on the ball, and far far better positional sense, they play in similar areas, they are in not at similar levels

Lead the league in tackles last season, second in tackles this season. It may not mean much but he's classified too much as a midfielder that he's not. He's not instructed to push forward or thread a pass through five defenders. I think he could thrive in any role after some training, but for now, he wins our balls back. What we do with the ball afterward isn't much his fault.
