Chopping and changing his role in the team to accommodate different midfielders has had an adverse affect on his individual performances ever since we signed Schneiderlin.

That being said, his tackle for the Niasse goal today was absolutely class.

He's still one of the first names on the teamsheet for me, but ideally I'd rather him actually hold and destroy as he did at first rather than being asked to get forward a bit and link up play - because this is showing his weakness in passing that Villa fans forewarned us of.

Hideously overrated, can't pass, can't hold, can't play forwards, sound for a midfielder

Looks like the player I expected him to be when we signed him. The central midfield could do with a complete overhaul right now. Even Davies just goes around kicking people lately. Grim.

Set up the second goal, without that Everton lose the game. Made 7 successful tackles which is fair going.

Very poor otherwise.

Still a 12 out of 10 performance when you compare it to what his midfield partners in Schneiderlin and Davies offered in this one.

Not sure what is going on in training though... Gana has obvious strengths - tackling, intercepting, breaking up play, and he has obvious weaknesses - playmaking, passing more than 10 metres, dribbling, shooting. Why then is he being asked to effectively play as a b2b pseudo-10? Bin Schneiderlin, put Gana at the base of the midfield, and tell him his only job is to protect the centre halves, win the ball and play a 5m sideways pass to someone else whose job it is to create something.

Is it honestly that difficult to see, when literally the entire world bar the coaching staff can see it?

He has zero positional discipline and when he sits in front of the back 4 almost everytime he is faced with the decision of whether to press the man or protect the space he makes the wrong choice.

He needs someone behind him with a brain & just let him run around trying to win back possession. Genuinely doesn't have the football brain to play directly in front of the back four.

Woeful AGAIN today, no discipline and just chasing balls that don't need to be chased and in turn leaves huge holes behind him. Sit in front of the back 4 you stupid tit and put out the fires there.

Only Everton would have 2 of the worst defensive midfielders who don't know how to shield a defence
