I think your spot pn regaridng who looks for the ball ( hence why I don't get on Rooneys back when he is picked because at least he wants it even though he does my head in constantly dropping deep ).
I think it's a sad state of affairs when a kid has come in like Beni and in the small amount if time he's been on has looked head and shoulders above Morgan and Gueye by doing the basics as you mention. And that's the problem, these players aren't doing the basics right. Take the ball, look up, pass and move into space, marking men, preventing certain passages of play unfold etc etc all basic stuff that all the training in the world won't help when the players cross the white line.
None of them taking responsibility, in fact they are visibly shirking it
This phrase is what kills me about us. We have multiple posters & fans who destroy Barkley time &'time again. Yet not once have I ever seen him hide from the ball.
He has been destroyed by pundits after derby games for playing poorly but never once did he shy away from the ball regardless of mistakes or not playing well.
Stones feigned injury at anfield to get away from the pressure just as Schneiderlin gets sent off yesterday, gueye makes angles from the man on the ball so he doesn't have to take possession instead of moving into space.
These are the real bottlers.
I remember when victor Valdez tried to pass it out of defence in a big game think it was a Classico & gave a simple goal away.
Pep made the point to praise him in the aftermatch press conference as even after such a costly error he continued to do what his manager instructed & play the ball out from the back.
We don't have many players with this level of character after a mistake they fold which is why we keep getting pumped rather than Losing by the odd goal
