I'd say Neville was probably the most outstanding Everton player I've ever seen, so I'd be reluctant to agree with your candid assessment Mr Mouser esq.

I started supporting Everton in the late 90's and never got to see Southall play.

That said, everything I've ever heard about him on here tells me I'm the poorer for it.

He pretty much won the 95 FA Cup for us when he was nearly 40, the guy outplayed Peter Schmeichel who was touted as the best keeper going and in the prime of his career. Fantastic, fantastic goalkeeper, reflex reactions of a cat

No comparison. Nev all day long, The F.A. cup '95 and the league game against United in the same season were two of the finest games iv'e ever seen him in.

Oh you are mate. I have been watching Everton since the 80's, and no-one comes close to him. In fact, I read an interview with Petr Cech (before his head injury) where he cited Southall as his hero and inspiration to be a keeper.
