In the wake of Howard's passing and the immediate calls for stands and roads to be re-named, statues to be erected and suchlike, non of which I am against... there is another possibility that could also be considered for and to permanently honour the Holy Trinity.

What would people think about the club retiring the number 4, 6 and 8 shirts in honour of Howard, Colin Harvey and Bally in similar vein to the way ice hockey honours retired players ?

Not for me.

We'd end up with high squad numbers, you couldn't leave Dixie and 9 out. Better to keep a tradition going, playing in the number - Dean, Latchford, Sharp, Gray, Ferguson, Kone etc...

Personally, I prefer to keep them mate. Just my preference.

I have always thought there is a relevance to a player representing a club, any club, in the traditions of a "a clubs great No 8" for example.

9 certainly could not be retired given just those names I agree, but retiring 4,6 & 8 surely wouldn't be quite so contentious given the use of squad numbers rather than just 1 to 11 ?

I just dont think of the players as 4, 6, and 8 though. The midfield of Kendal Ball and Harvey, the Holy Trinity. Thats more to me than a shirt number. Statue is a must though, while Harvey is still with us as well.

Nice to see HK's family getting a proper Everton reception at half time:)
Classy as ever.
Nice touch that, I just hope his family get some comfort from all the love shown for Howard by us.

We really need to use that Elton John song more btw.
When were 3-0 up against the RS at Wembley in the final of the league cup, and they start with YNWA, we should sing I guess that's why they call us the blues.
We miss a trick sometimes. Can't buy me love was ace the other week as well.

Fair enough.
Totally agree on a statue of the Holy Trinity and it's massively, massively important that it portrays them all perfectly.

A statue of the three of them works for me rather than retiring the shirt numbers. In years to come, it'd be ace if we had players with those numbers emulating to some extent the holy trinity. Aim high etc.

Sorry mate, not for me. Personally I would have a permanent memorial inside the ground looking down on the pitch they graced as young men. I'd also not do it until Colin joins his mates, hopefully not for many years yet.

a great sentiment mate and I know where you're coming from but I just long for the days when the starting eleven were numbered 1-11!

....love the thought of a Holy Trinity statue but nothing would be more fitting for it to be unveiled by the last remaining member.
