Howard Kendall RIP

Just been talking to my father and he reminded me how much Howard achieved in his 2 seasons at Rovers. Near bottom of the 3rd to within goal difference of the 1st on a shoestring. 15 game unbeaten run ( 14 wins and a draw) in the promotion season.
Hope you guys get a statue fund going. I for one will contribute.
R.I.P Howard.

see there is a petition to rename the Park End after him. I think that is only right....it should have happened years ago, but better late then never. I'm glad Bobby made him one of the family again

One story I would like to share with you all is when I went to watch Everton play a friendly in Bordeaux in 1987. My mates and I decided to find the stadium in the daytime to familiarise ourselves with the route for the match later that night.
When we found the stadium, the whole place was open, as the TV crews were setting everything up as the game was to be televised .
We walked in through into the stadium to find the Everton team going through a training session. We managed to get onto the pitch and I asked Howard Kendall if it was possible to have a photo taken with the team. He obliged and also told us to ask for him when we arrived at the stadium for the game as he gave us complimentary tickets.
The seats were behind the Everton dug out, John Clinkard the pysio was generous with packets of Wrigley's spearmint gum.
The late Jack Search one of the directors came over to us and thanked us for behaving ourselves too.
In Howard Kendall's programme notes for our next home game at Goodison, he mentioned the group of us for travelling over to the friendly in Bordeaux.
That sums up for me the man Howard Kendall was.

I'll pop this in here for discussion.

I remember the Irish Toffees had a meet and greet in the Red Cow hotel in 2003 I think it was. Kendall Watson Sheedy amongst others were there. The Evertonians were ringing out a few chants mainly about Davey Moyes and his red hair. At that time Moyes hysteria was in full swing. So after a few rooney chants Davey Moyes gets a few loops. On the third loop of 'Davey Moyes Davey Moyes Davey Davey Moyes' -Kendall cuts in on the microphone with he's own version -'he's won fck all he's won fck all Davey Davey Moyes'. The crowd where in hysterics of a different kind after that. I was only about 14 at the time but it definitely put things into perspective for me and it came from the horses mouth.

What a wonderful memory for you. People can say what they like about our club...but no one could ever dispute the class that permeates through it. Howard epitomised that. Brings tears to my eyes thinking of all the memories....I told him so once too over a drink and he was touched. Class and humility....a marker I hope our young players carry on.

Wonder if his family would consider the Anglican Cathedral for the service, only place large enough to do this giant justice, and probably best religious architecture (not a sectarian pov btw) on Merseyside.

Heard similar suggestion today.
Would be some turn out.

That piano version of Z Cars as well..

My dad loved him. He said Alan Ball was the best but the three of them were magic and we were blessed to have them. He loved him as a manager as well (Who wouldn't) My dad looked like him a lot. Sadly he also died close to his age at 68. Everton almost had my dad as a striker, but the Army fecked that one up. That's a story for another day. My dad liked his pint so he will be treating Howie to one I am sure.
