Met him a few times as a kid during and after his third spell. Wasn't a great time but he was still a lovely and attentive man.

Great to see his involvement with the club over the last couple of years. Much loved - a true Everton legend. Glad to say I'll be at Goodison today. It will be emotional.

I've just seen this terribly sad news.

Howard Kendall was in charge during the happiest times I have been an Evertonian. I had the honour of meeting him in one of my local pubs in Maghull and still have his autograph on the only scrap of paper I had to hand at the time. A true gentleman and an incomparable loss.

R.I.P. Howard. Fully worthy of the tag 'Everton Legend' and you will always be remembered with happiness and gratitude as far as I am concerned.

I was too young to fully appreciate his footballing talent, but our best manager by far. The word legend is given too easily these days, but fully deserved in Howards case.
RIP, condolences to his family.

This just sent a shiver down my spine, the memories flooded back 'we're on the Howard's army'
Yes - the semi v Luton when Sheeds equalised whole Everton support singing it. 10,000 at Notss County 83-84 , similar at Stoke when we were awful. Remember his team talk when he opened the dressing room windows to 10,000 Everton fans chanting 'we're on the march ' and ordering the players to simply not let them down. Start of a dream I was lucky enuogh to live through.

A friend of mine who is a mad United fan has just said and I will quote

"From a United fanatic Howard Kendall was the best uncapped player I've seen. But for Bobby Moore he'd have won a hundred caps for England"

Legend.

Horrible news. Literally sent a shiver down my spine when I seen it. Wasn't born during Kendall's trophy louden years and was too young to remember him third spell. Been told all the stories though and always loved seeing interviews or punditry from him. Really sad day, prayers to all his family and friends. Hopefully we can give him some kind of send off today.

RIP
