How stupid are Manu?

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. The day after the window closes is the beginning of the rest of your life, you know. With the new men in + the LVG show, it'll be worth watching through the season.

If we were in as much trouble in the back as I fear right now, I'd have bought too. I've been wrong a lot in my life, and this may be another example. Everybody has to bed in and get a flow going, and the time before the end of the window is like its own mini-season.

Well, it's over now. Oh joy, an international break. Think I'll watch some NFL.

Van Gaal plays with two deep lying midfielders in front of his back three to provide coverage. Not unlike us with Barry and Macca when Seamus and Baines push up. Needs to have one ball winner there.
Yes, and this is what makes LVG's summer shopping spree seem a little strange, if he's planning on using the 3-4-1-2 system he used with Holland.

He's finished up with more top-quality personnel for his front line than he's going to need (Falcao, RVP, Rooney for the two striker positions, ADM and Mata for the single ACM spot), nowhere for Januszaj or Young to play at all, no-one who can play the RWB position and one good CB playing alongside two rubbish ones. Presuming Shaw does play as the LWB, Blind will be one of the two CMs and there are options for the second CM spot - Herrera, Carrick, Fellaini.

With the players at his disposal, I don't understand why LVG isn't going to use a flat back four and then switch between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3 in-game. There is no reason to play two of Smalling, Jones and Evans at CB to accomodate a RWB you don't have. Don't know why he didn't bid for Janmaat.

People said the same when we bought RVP from you lot a few years ago. We didn't have a midfield then, plus we didn't have Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw or Marcos Rojo. That turned out ok though. You can dress it up how you like but we are a far better team NOW than we were when we won our 20th league title.

Basically, this is the bottom line - Falcao was offered to Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd. We bit Monaco's hand off seeing as RVP is going to be having knee surgery. What were we supposed to say? Would you have turned it down if you were Ed Woodward?

He'll score lots of goals. It's a no brainer.

As for this summer transfer window - it's been a dream come true. I can't believe the players we've brought in considering we have no CL footy to offer.

Exciting times.

Ha ha, Love this! A Man U "supporter" and an Arsenal "fan" having a tiff on an Everton Fans Forum! Personally think its hilarious that Man U are now spending money like its going out of fashion having spent the last 5-10 years slagging Chelsea and Man City off for doing exactly the same thing! Apparently cos' its now Man U though its ok!

There's a huge difference. We are spending money that WE GENERATE as a club. We have no sugar daddy.

City were a club bought by a billionaire who then just threw money at the club hoping it would turn out well, which it did.

Surely you can see the difference here?

Garbage! Think if you check you'll find the Glazers are billionaires, and if £200m+ since Fergie left isn't just throwing money at the club hoping it turns out well, I'm not sure what is!

Man Utd have bought some world class players for a lot of money over the last 2 years to add to a squad that already won the league in a canter.

They really should be back among the big time very shortly and if they aren't it's a huge failiure by van gaal.

They simply do have to be managed appalingly badly to not do well with the ammount of off field resources and on field talent they have at their disposal.

Which is why it is so funny when it happens (as it has happened for the last year). It will be a sad day when they get their house back in order.

What's the possibility that those in charge don't understand how to run a football club?

You're ignoring his point mate

They generate their own money through sponsorship and were generating that money before the Glazers

It is different to City. City had that money injected to them by an outside force

Man United raised that money by being one of the world's most largely supported clubs

What United do with that money is their own business. It is their money at the end of the day

Watching the Jags will get you in the mood for Everton again

Huge pressure on LVG to get a top 4 spot at least this year after spending so much in transfers/wages and only having the league games up until January.
The fall out if they fail will be hilarious, they threw everything they had to get back in to the CL. To be fair though, if anybody's going to give them a CL spot, it's us, and I fear it will happen.

Tbh they had to really as being out of Europe for a second year in a row, especially with embarrassing peformances like the MK Dons game, would significantly compromise their business model.

Just slightly surprised they seem to be going down the "galaticos" Real Madrid route. Perhaps it is just a one off for this season.

With you failing to sign another CB or defensive midfielder, as you say it might be your CL that they take. What is the general feeling about the Welbeck signing?

I personally don't mind City and Chelsea spending big on players - makes the league interesting! You'd soon change your tune if Scrooge Kenwright got the chequebook out. Your posts just smack of bitterness :)
Every other post mentions bitterness. Are you sure you're a manc ??

Lets be honest. You don't have a problem with City and Chelsea because your team has splashed the cash this summer. What a coincidence you mention this the day after Falcao and Blind showing up at Utd.... and what better way to support your bitterness theory by throwing in the arl ' I don't mind Chelsea and City '.

Wept lad.

More importantly, when all is said and done, hardly anyone gives a nutty brown hoop about Utd. We have an opinion to which we share, but no one is really that arsed like.

What a great exercise in revisionism.

It is as if they never paid big money before this summer

Veron, Rooney, Rio, RVP, Fellani, Mata, Berbatov and many more.

Of course, it wouldn't fit the narrative to say "we signed ADM and Falcao versus Fellani and Mata" because they spent more on the latter two last season than they have on the former this summer :D

De Gea

Shaw
Rojo
Jones
Blind
Herrera
Mata
Young
Di Maria
Rooney
RVP

Everyone is more expensive than our second most expensive player ever.

but yeah, obertan, bebe etc.

There are mixed emotions but overall relief :D I mean, we had to put up with Giroud for a couple of years, it's a miracle how we finished in the top 4 with him as our lead striker so I am relieved too.

I can understand the mixed emotions though, this is the club that had Dennis Bergkamp, this is the club that had Thierry Henry, this is the club that had RVP and now we're making a deadline deal for Welbeck as a our lead striker, there is no doubt this club has fallen in stature. I never thought I'd see the day I looked at Everton's strikeforce with envy yet here we are.

However, Wenger does have an uncanny ability to get the absolute best out of strikers and there is no question that Welbeck offers more pace and better link-up play than Giroud so it will be interesting to see what happens, he could be a masterstroke.

Think Wenger's management and playing style could be good for Welbeck. As you say, his pace should help out Ozil as will Walcott's when he returns. Hope it does even though you are a rival for the CL places - he seems a good lad and I like the
English lids to do well. Also hope Oxlade chamberlain gets more games this year.
