How stupid are Manu?

In the dark days since 1987 of everton being generally not that good, Man U's endless domination is just about the only ammunition we had to throw at the kopites. It really really annoyed them to watch them slowly get overtaken from what they saw as their rightful spot at the peak of english football by a team they hated. Obviously I'd rather that was us but I'm also really rather glad it wasn't the kopites.

So it's natural to have some soft spot for the team that stopped them chanting about 18 times and has been the main reason they've not extended that total for some time. I mean I don't like man utd much as a team at all, I would happily see them get relegated, but as a symbol that liverpool aren't the all dominating winners they used to be, I adore them.

to be fair, it was pretty rapid

This will either go amazingly, averagely or really bad. I vote really bad. You don't have a midfield and you don't have a defence.

Just read this on Twitter. Spot-on.

Most of the bitterness towards Utd is coming from fans who are enjoying our demise and don't think it's fair that we're addressing it.

Someone came up with a good analogy on here last week.

He said it was like WW2 when we had the Soviet Union on our side in the fight with Nazi Germany.

We were glad we had them as a bulwark.

But once the Nazis were defeated we we were happy to see their Empire fall :)

I just read this on Twitter:

The "old Utd is dead" we signed ADM and Falcao versus Bellion and Obertan. RIP.

What a great exercise in revisionism.

It is as if they never paid big money before this summer

Veron, Rooney, Rio, RVP, Fellani, Mata, Berbatov and many more.

Of course, it wouldn't fit the narrative to say "we signed ADM and Falcao versus Fellani and Mata" because they spent more on the latter two last season than they have on the former this summer :D

Shaw, Herrera, Rojo, Di Maria, Blind and Jones are all perfectly good footballers. So I disagree.
But not where you needed them. You have no real ballwinner or destroyer in midfield, and you lack real quality in the CB area. You're fine for left back, but you lack a true RWB if Van Gaal persists with his 3 at the back and two flying wingbacks.
Of Carrick, Fellaini, Cleverly, DiMaria, Herrera only really Fellaini can perform the destroyer/ball winner role and with the way OT has scapegoated him for some performances last season, I can't see that happening.

We lack sharpness at the back and have conceded silly goals, but of the goals we've conceded maybe two or three have come from being taken apart. Both Leicester goals came from pieces of misfortune (Distin clearing against someone and the rebound falling directly to their player), likewise the second was a ricochet.
In the Arsenal game tired legs in the defence were sliced through.
The Chelsea game was a mixture of calamitous defending, unfortunate deflections x2, poor refereeing, and chasing a game.
But that doesn't fit your narrative does it.

Jesus lads let them have it, the hype will subside. Again there doesn't seem a great deal of strategy behind who they've picked up but whatever, they can afford it.
Football has a wonderful way of humbling folk on occasion, so we can see whether they've improved or not soon enough.
