Unlike you Dave I will not throw the towel in just yet and I am surprised that you have. Laughing at this because it seems I have more faith in RM than you, now that's a turn up for the books.
We have finite resources. We have to use them wisely. If we had a squad with realistically 18 first team starters then yes - go for the PL and cup games with equal energy. We dont though, so we have to target one or the other. And I know which one I think is more important.

this could go on further - we could end up drawing City again in the FA Cup 4th round three days after the semi final :D

then its Newcastle on the Wednesday after that, and Stoke away the Saturday after. Its a huge few weeks and squad management has to be spot on.

If we get beat in the league at Citeh & then at Chelski, Swansea at home will be a six pointer at the foot !!

Oh-oh.

That puts a different slant on it.

I thought Swansea came in between those two games.

Two tough away fixtures before it definitely changes the perspective.

It sounds like you'd rather we won the '7th place pat on the head no mark cup'.

I can see what you mean though: winning a trophy after beating City over two legs and then Liverpool/Stoke in the final would be completely worthless - a footnote in Everton's trophy history.

*looks at Everton's history - nope*.

Oh, I get it now.....

We're only gonna finish no better than 7th so we might as well forget the league and try to beat schitteh and A.N. Other, or win 6 one-off games. So much for your 'ambition'. :dodgy:

Well you know what? Lose to schitteh and your wet dream's over.

Win - And win the final and all our work's done. Not.

You complain about the lack of moolah and lack of progress as much as any one of us on here. I'd happily forego the pisspot and RM's concentration (And your obsession with it) on it, if it meant he gave the league priority. And with the squad he's got coupled with the results elsewhere it's not unreasonable to have expected us to be a lot higher than 11th..

At something like £2m for winning the LC, it equates to TWO league places. the difference between 11th and 9th. Financially it's not worth a carrot. CL is though. RM's (You know, your anointed one?) has even said himself he doubts the cup'll keep his best players happy.

Personally I don't give a flying one about the competiton; never have, and never will. If our name goes on the pot then fine - I won't carry on like it's something other than the 3rd best trophy in the land. Beating the [Poor language removed] in the final will be more memorable than the pot itself....and that's the best thing I can say about it, tbh.

I'd rather 3rd place than 3rd best trophy; and a CL spec to keep players happy here, attract other players and get the big bucks so we can have a better pop at (the more prestigious) trophies in future.

But you just carry on, with your vainly trying to appropriate attitudes to people and demonise them because they differ from your ideals. I've never said we should bin the competiton; merely where I'd place my priorities and why.

We're lucky in the sense that we can pretty much play a reserve side at the weekend and still hope to get through. After that I don't think it's too much to cope with with the League and League Cup. It's possible that injuries mean that certain players get rested anyway. (McCarthy, Lukaku, Baines, Coleman, Cleverley)

Defence should pick itself for City and Chelsea in the League (best available) and I guess this period is why we are hanging onto Naismith, Gibson and Mirallas (if any of them are eventually on their way).

Of course the cup is the main priority. The league will take centre stage again after the second leg, whatever the result, until the week before the final (should we get through). It's not like we need to accept a bottom half finish with certainty to prioritise the cup.

I'm not that worried about league position, currently. I think we'll get top half comfortably and maybe even a Europa spot, even if we go to Wembley 4 times, let alone once (barring an injury crisis). If we could add a cup win to that, we'll have ended a 20 year trophy drought and got ourselves European football. Best season in decades.

Why dont you put that to a vote on this forum?

"Would you prefer to win the LC or finish 5th in the PL?"

That's a fair enough question, I think.

See what result you get. Over to you.....

5th now?

Was the 7th place trophy before.
I'm making any such vote more favourable to you!

If you think what you've said is correct (that a cup win and 11th place in the PL is unacceptable) then you should easily get a poll to reflect your view if you offer people a choice between 5th place and a LC trophy....shouldn't you?

As I said, over to you.....
