Perfect example of "better the devil you know..."

Nailed it. Each side is genuinely hysterical.

At times I wonder if the very essence of the Quran and its teachings is compatible with what we've established as Western civilization, or is it at odds with it. I'm not qualified to answer that, but it's a logical thing to bring up and have a genuine discussion about. Instead, I'd be shot down by many as a racist and (ironically) a bigot, even though you're genuinely trying to explore something and understand it.

Equally, there's tens of thousands of 'moderate' muslims who don't deserve tarring with the same brush as those who commit these atrocities, but to defend them gets a reaction from those on the other side.

Feel like genuine, useful discourse will never take place though sadly.

Yeah, toxic to get into it.

There is lots of useful discourse out there, but as it's a complicated subject, it doesn't fit well into a 5 minute segment on TV, so huge numbers of people are ill informed all round.

But there's plenty of books and long form podcasts out there to find.

So all the security service and police need is a couple of thousand spare staff to put on permanent follow for all these targets . Because everyone of them needs following 24/7 to ensure they're beyond criticism when anything happens.

Following and carrying out surveillance on people is massively labour intensive and you need 2 teams working 12 hour shifts and a team on a day off to ensure your cover 365 days a year , it's a stick to beat them with but just hugely impractical.

Folks see a few episodes of Spooks, and think its as straight forward as that.

Brother was in Counter Opps, quite a while ago, but the principle remains.

Best part is he was only born here because his parents were refugees that probably fell foul of Gaddafis regime.

The way to stop terrorism is to admit in mindreading/telepathy/remote viewing and stop the charade.

The majority of people are telepathic and can hear other people's thoughts or read minds and so all this terrorism crap makes no sense and it can easily be avoided.

The one sure thing is that the only draconian measures that work are in totalitarian regimes that execute in their thousands which let's face it is , thankfully , not an option .

Otherwise that leaves us with rule of law . Funding for security services , a thought out foreign policy , engagement with the Muslim community and a serious look at prison radicalisation are all a start .

The issue with it all is the counter balance between racism and awareness. Reporting any odd Muslim behaviour is entirely racist and creates a sub culture that would be venomous. However at the same time anything 'odd' that isn't reported could well end up in tragedy. It is a fine line that I believe is impossible to walk down and maintain safety of this or any other country.

The issue sadly is the communities that people can hide in plain sight in which makes it impossible. The Islam communities growing bigger every year means that one terrorist is hidden from plain view, they would need to be careless to be even picked up on any police radar. It is very much the same of the paedophile ring of the 70s and 80s where they hid in plain sight.

There is no answer, and that is the problem. You can't tackle terrorism these days without being racist and that can't happen. You can't affect the lives of the many simply because of the few. The scariest thing is, the next terrorist who decides to blow himself up might not even know it yet, seems very simple to adopt someone into radicalism and to essentially brainwash them into believing the cause. That is also why it is impossible to deal with it. The only answer is the wrong one which is racial profiling anyone who doesn't fit the image.

The only solution I can think of to genuinely end the threat is sadly the most extreme and to fix it by force. But then that is the wrong answer again.

But of a ramble, just horrible times we are living in
