Current Affairs How do we tackle terrorism?

There was never any reasoning to be done with this ideology. Stewart Lee did a stand-up on it - they want the obliteration of western culture; that isn't a negotiation starting point.

Just wipe them out, honestly. Military intervention, anywhere they have a stronghold, absolutely destroy them, over and over again. Stamp on the cockroaches as soon as you see one.

You can't reason with the ideology itself, but my point is about trying to prevent people being drawn into the ideology.

Wipe out their strongholds, don't give the ideology a physical base to spring from.

The 'guerilla war' will continue but they won't have the same flag to wave.

The Islamic 'State' needs to be obliterated.

It would cause more harm than good but i just wish we could bomb the whole state they call their own so it has a half life of about a 1000 years, they can then practice their twisted version of Islam while basking in the glow of radiation.

But it would bring us down to their level, we would not set about to deliberately kill innocent children on their side. That's what makes us better.

The issue here is that while ISIS and their ilk are clearly horrendous human beings, they are far from stupid.
A lot of their 'strongholds' are within built up areas with lots of civilians. Obliterating these groups also means obliterating the civilians they surround themselves with; and nothing drums up support more than footage of dead women and children... sadly both sides will take advantage of this.

Thus the cycle continues :(

Seems like from the social perspective, if you know your neighbors you are more likely to help them than harm them

But so much of the current state of terrorism is politically motivated; Western nations need to come to grips with the understanding that "conventional warfare" creates "terrorism" as a like-for-like response.

Specifically, in US-Middle East relations there seems to be a huge gap in understanding the perspective of the other (on both sides), and the obvious mistrust that results from this gap.
