Horse Racing

Nothing worse than animal cruelty, he shouldn't be let anywhere near a horse again.

I agree that is abhorrent; but problem is what constitutes animal cruelty, especially in a sport that uses the whip. I know it may be argued that the horse is struck on a less painful area - but that's only 'ideally' (Piggott for example had a technique where if he was absolutely desperate he could aim a strike right onto the poophole of the horse).

Yes you have a point about the whip.
To punch a horse though, barbaric. Even more surprising that a top jockey did it.
Will never back any of his again, hopefully some owners and trainers will stop using him.

Probably a few weeks' ban imo.
Punching your horse isn't cool, but "ban for life" is a bit OTT.. it's hardly a Tiger Uppercut.
Sometimes horse are a bit wild and need to be strongarmed a bit and shown that the jockey is in charge.

Anyways.. YORK meeting this week. One of the highlights of the flat calendar.

And Arrogate got beaten again!
I've never heard as much [Poor language removed] in my life. Sometimes kids are a bit wild would you give them a dig to the back of the head?

If I was the owner of that horse I'd want him banned for a period of time. They entrust their horse to the care of these jockeys and rely on their expertise to know when to pull them up etc, if you're telling me an experienced horseman like Russell needs to jab a horse in the back of he head to control it then you need to think again.

Should clarify here that I agree entirely that the punching is animal cruelty, but just saying that the whip could also be seen as animal cruelty.

Issue for me is the whip issues gets front page headlines in the racing post every month or so. Davy Russell right hooks a horse and nothing is said in the press. Social media gets some slack at times but in times like this it works.

I don't disagree now you've clarified, the whip rules have changed in the last few years but I think they should be abolished.

The ITV camerawork and close up of Cracksman just now were incredible.
It showed the pure power the horse has and how good Frankie is.

Excellent performance from Ulysses , will have to run him against Enable and Satono Diamond in the Arc now

It's the Peterborough Greyhound Derby heats tonight.
Really fancy the fav to win it. Hiya Butt.
Anything over 5/2 looks a good bet outright.

( watch it miss the break and get smashed first round like.. )
Hope someone else just went mental watching sky greyhounds.
Won final easy.
