This is a very simplified term i suppose, but the way i see it there was a good IRA and a bad IRA.

I guess i see the provos/real and continuity IRA as bad, and the Michael Collins/Tom Barry era IRA as not quite as bad i suppose.

You see the Mick Collins/Tom Barry IRA as “not quite as bad”.

Ergo you think they were “bad“ to some degree.

Had you been around in Cork circa 1920 would you have been a unionist?

Are you still one?

Lads, let's not reopen Civil war wounds.

In December I hope to take part in a centenary memorial for my great uncle and his comrades who were executed by the IFS Government.

My beloved wife, who is from the IFS tradition will be with me.

These men and women were passionate believers in each other's cause. However too many died.

I respect what Elizabeth II did when she came here.

We must acknowledge the past but not let it rule our future.

Great words. My mother was from Galway and fiercely republican back in the day. By contrast my father is from the Kerry/Cork border and grew up in a family where many young men were lost in the civil war.

He was brought up with the attitude that, after so many hundreds of years and faced with the might of the British Empire that Ireland turned in on itself with tragic consequences. The Treaty route was the logical one (in my opinion) but hearts and minds don't always follow each other and a few of the more cynical at the time took advantage of what was going on for personal gain.

A tragic turn of events to follow the many other tragedies on such a small island. Still. Better days ahead for the 32.

"Gawd Bless you, Ma'am. I swapped the queue for the foodbank for a chance to be told I was too late to see you lying in state. But at least I saw Phillip Schoefield sweeping past."
That's something though isn't it? I mean isn't that something? You catch a glimpse of a celeb and you know at least your time hasn't been wasted.

I missed out on The Antelope (a rollercoaster) at Gullver's World because of Windsor Davies but I don't begrudge him; he brought joy to millions with his antics in It Ain't 'Alf Hot Mum, Never the Twain, and countless Carry On films.

It's the same thing. At least I can say I saw him.

Windsor Davies was only in a couple of Carry On films. I think you’re getting him confused with Charles Hawtry?

I see only the IRA that existed, until around the end of the Irish civil war (i can see why people would be anti treaty) as somewhat justified. I see the later incarnations, as more corrupted versions of the original IRA.

The original IRA did murder innocent protestant families around county Cork as well mind you.
