Do you know what is an Oxymoron? A supposed Irish man that supports Rangers and prefers Mountbatten to McGuinness and then indulges in classic DUP 'what abouterry'.

McGuinness laid down arms to join a peace process. He put himself in the firing line to bring the hard liners on board. He was a hero.
Well i think he was a terrorist scumbag, who committed terrible atrocities in my name. As an Irish man i feel the need to constantly apologise to the British public, for the atrocities that that man and his organisation committed on my supposed behalf.

I was reared to hate violent and physical force Irish republicanism. The late John Hume and late David Trimble are heroes in my opinion, not the likes of Martin McGuinness, Gerry Adams and Ian Paisley.

Can't believe what I've just read in that thread.

So presumably you'd include the heroes from 1916 in that would you?

Without McGuinness and Adams there would be no peace. That incarnation of armed republicanism kicked off as a defence mechanism but sure you know that.

Still an Irish man lauding and loving Mountbatten, Trimble and Sevco Glasgow Rangers I bet must make you one in a million!

I know it would have to come from him but surely he must know that the public would accept William and Kate far easier than him and Camilla.

"The public" really means "the media and political establishment" here. The late Queen wasn't a threat, William and Kate do not appear to be (as opposed to Harry and Meghan) but Charles speaks his mind and worse still is often proved right.

He does seem a complex person but he has been years ahead of society on loads of issues - aesthetics, pollution / ecological collapse, global heating and inter-faith relations to name a few - and more people had listened to him earlier we would as a planet be in a better place now.

As King, and with the government we have now, I can't see him keeping quiet if things head south or if they start to trample over his long-held opinions and efforts. This might cause constitutional issues, especially if he achieves political support for standing up to them (which I think would be extremely likely).

They'll fall in line until they can hammer him. There's no honour amongst thieves.

Bravo, Corky ;)

No doubt you are also ashamed of many of your fellow Corkmen to whom “physical force Irish republicanism” was the only way they felt they could oust the British from Cork’s fair county.

Fellows like Michael Collins, Tom Barry etc.

I bet you kept the hatred you felt towards violent republicans to yourself in school, though.

Those fellows are pretty highly regarded in County Cork.

Particularly out Kilmichael, Dunmanaway direction ?

My god a tribute thread to the Queen, getting desecrated by an argument about Martin McGuinness.

I'll try and say something positive here, by saying that at least he was able to convince the vast majority of the republican movement to move away from violence.

Back to the topic at hand, the Queen coming to Ireland was a big thing for me, and the few words she spoke in the Irish language was quite moving.

I think now that she has passed away, we could see the royal family decline in popularity. I can't see people holding Charles in the same levels of affection. He just doesn't have the people skills that his late mother had.

Mate you turned the discussion that way. Anyways. Serious question as I'm genuinely interested - do you have many local friends sharing your taste for the Queen, Mountbatten, Trimble and Glasgow Rangers?
