As to the benefits of changing it, for me, the biggest benefit is the message it sends that someone isn't a cut above everyone else merely by virtue of the family they were born into.

I always think the tories and upper classes see the monarchy as an important institution to be protected and revered, as it perpetuates the notion that nobility and inherited wealth should be treated as the norm even though it means we end up with a load of dolts in charge.

Well this kinda proves my point though. The people cheer and celebrate whilst having to work themselves into the ground in order to survive and generally generate a load of cash for someone else.

Wherever the Queen went, in the U.K. or anywhere overseas, even in the USA, tens and hundreds of thousands used to line up, cheer and enjoy seeing or meeting her. They weren’t ordered to do so, they just did it. My wife still remembers the day the Queen visited her town in the eastern valley in South Wales.

Japanese ballet members laying flowers at the British Embassy in Japan…none are Tories or Toffs to my knowledge…..this is happening all over the world, because everyone on this planet has known of the Queen for pretty well the whole of their lives…….

A question for many of you. When heads of State, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Chancellors or indeed Royalty would visit the U.K. who did they really want to meet, Maggie, Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron, May, Boris …or The Queen ?

Another question. When the U.K. needed to repair relations with a country (think USA and Suez crisis as an example) who did we send ?….
