Transfer Rumour Hayden Hackney

Not really.

In the January they quoted city £100m. Then at the start of the summer transfer window they wanted £70m. Then £50m when we went in for him and finally we got him for £35m and £5m in add-ons.

It was us going in with £27m bid that brought the price down to the £35m.

Same thing will happen here. You need to go in low to give yourself room to negotiate up.

Middlesbrough are over a barrle on this one not us.

If City actually wanted him, he'd be a City player now.. .

I agree Middlesbrough are the club over a barrel....and i agree we should be low balling with out first offer, thats sensible negotiating on our part....which was my point.....we should also know when to walk away from a deal.....I dont see the Hackney deal getting out of our reach, because he's down to 1 year, and he wants to leave....

So with the add ons, which we would have assumed we would be paying eventually (certainty hoping we would have to pay).....40m?.....

Depends which way you want to look at it. We actually paid them £35m. That's how much the transfer was worth when it was made.

Or one can quote a total deal worth up to £40m: how much the transfer could be worth if the player turns out to be as good as Southampton made them out to be. Generally a good compromising position that allows the buying club to factor in risk.

Generally you'll find that those seeking to criticise the club like to use the £40m figure without context because it makes us look more incompetent.

Either way they wanted £50m and we cut a better deal by going in low. That's how these things work, so not sure we can criticise the club for making a low offer on Hackney in the hope of pulling Boro down from their initial valuation.

Either we're incompetent in negotiations because we offer too high or incompetent because we offer too low. As if bloke behind computer knows that, actually, £XXm is the correct starting offer. Some people just can't be content

Agree with most of that but come on can we give Carlos a chance at least.

Playing McNeil, Gana and running KDH into the ground is stupid; give the boy a decent chance before not liking the look of him.

This is what P me off about Moyes, has his favourites and nothing sways him no matter how poorly they play.

We need a better Manager.
I agree. You can tell who his favourites are through how he doesn’t treat them.

How are you meant to not have a sniff for weeks then expect the universe in a 7 minute cameo… and when you don’t turn it around back to the bench for another month.

Annoys the living feck out of me. But I’ve come to terms that he will be in charge next season, so we will have to win in spite of his ways.

Absolutely no point in us having a squad of more than 15 players except to fill the subs places.

Hackney will leave Boro for us or some other Premiership club for somewhere between about 12 and 18 million I expect.

If reports are true that Everton is his preferred club then that will certainly other clubs not to get involved.

Exactly how Moyes 'negotiated' for Fellaini and Baines as a package deal when he went to Utd - offer pennies and start from there, this definitely will never and has never backfired or just pissed the other team off. Sensible
