Hackney and his family are all Boro fans, I wouldn't be surprised if he sees out his final year of the contract and happily play for them and leave on a free.
You do go in roundabouts Mooms, The other day you were saying Gibson will let him go for 10m when I said he wouldn't.

Sensible move. Nice big signing on fee for him.

….only if he continues to impress and stays injury free. It’s also another season of a relatively short career playing in lower flight.

Sometimes these opportunities only arise once, with just a year to go on his contract and with his stock high, he’s already in a decent bargaining position regarding signing fee and salary.

Young players rarely do this. He might have a career ending injury at any point between now and signing for a new club on a free in which case he's earned all he's going to from football. Much safer to sign a four year deal now with a decent pay rise.

He has a good relationship with Gibson, his hope was to be promoted with them and play the season in the Premier and leave when relegated.

Would have been a new contract with a release clause.

I think he will be sold this summer but if he stays he will perform to the best of his abilities.

Yeah but that still goes against what you were saying mate.
Good relationship or not, Borough letting him walk out the door for such a low valuation, an amount they couldn't even to replace him with.
Or accepting the loss and possibly earning about 250m with promotion next season 🤔

Great friends or not, Gibson is running a business, you don't throw away your biggest asset for peanuts.

Digressing slightly, but saw Rio Ferdinand on a podcast last week and he said £30m isn’t enough for former players to see out the remaining 40 years of their life.
Just reenforced what an utter 🔔🔚 he is.
A (very) modest 4% on £30M would give him an income of £1.2 million a year, or a hundred thousand pounds a month. Surely he could struggle by on that.

When did I say 10 million?

Surely this must be a misquote. No-one is that out of touch.
HMB!

Also goes on to say how fortunate he is as he now earns more than he did before. However the internet is littered with other interviews with him saying how he was ripped off on property deals etc.
I suspect he’s in Dubai for tax purposes to long out whatever he has left, plus a bit of BEin Sport presenting no doubt. Highly doubt he’s earning more now, or if he is it’s only because he’s not paying tax on the income.
