Yep, I suppose thats a line of thinking, but what first made everybody stand up and pay attention was the fact that this is nothing like pneumonia, its what made China start testing. Doctors know what pneumonia looks like and its not like they werent aware of something different floating around in early January.
Yes true, it was the prevalence of similarity in cases that seemed to raise the alarm.

Going by the poll, only 1-in-40 blues have had it confirmed. Because of difficulties in testing, we can assume at least some of those 12 who suspect they had it, really did have it. Then add the asymptomatic. It gives us some room for good news, I feel.

It's still mega-serious, but may not be as deadly as first assumed.

Also there's more evidence coming that the Virus was active in October/November already, and that it may have been lab-grown, which could explain away unpredictable mutative behaviour.

That Wuhan Infectious Diseases Research Lab only being a stone's throw from those wet markets is likely no coincidence.

From that logical perspective, it's feasible that the virus spread to Europe as early as January, and from there it goes fast, and possibly mutated. So folk who suspect they may have had it already may have a point.

The antibody test results will be valuable, hopefully they will be accurate. So far we've only sequenced 2 mutations, and are fairly certain of a third distinct one, yet more reports appear to support vastly more mutations than merely 3, but it's unclear if that means different symptoms. The term "Covid-19" may need to split up into subsections if the different mutations really do present effectively a different illness.

Still all speculation. A lot of work for the boffins (and the investigative journos) to do still.

I am not sure how you deduce that from this online poll.

I had a cough in December that was easily the worst cough I've ever had. Dry too like the coronavirus is supposed to produce. I don't know how I could have possible gotten it so it was almost certainly something else, but I'd still be interested in doing the antibody test just to see.

It may or may not, presumably will depend on effectiveness of the vaccine and on anti viral treatments for those that are still infected.

One of the worrying aspects of coronavirus isn’t just its fatality rate but the % of cases that require hospitalization, the length of that hospitalization before recovery and the organs the virus affects which irrc are all significantly more than for a seasonal flu patient.

aye, for me the most worrying, most dangerous, difference between influenza and covid-19 is how deep the sars-cov-2 virus can get into the lungs. Causes horrendous damage if it gets to the air sacks.

Which bit?

;)

I have never barked so hard and frequently. It was when I starting spotting blood in the tissues that I coughing into that I knew things were really not right. The pressure on my lungs that followed was really very scary though and feeling that you can't get oxygen in was just awful.

Me sister who works in a care home said she has lost all smell and taste. I believe they are some symptoms of it, but she said she has no other symptoms and feels absolute spot on. Considering the care home has loads of cases and already had two deaths it is alarming.

I think you'd need to check to see who normally posts or lurks out of season before jumping to such a conclusion.

Anyone currently admitted to hospital, or worse, is very unlikely to vote in your poll so there's a very obvious potential statistical bias in your analysis here.

Almost certainly more than 20,000 dead so far in the UK
Adult population, about 65 million ... so about .03%

GOT has something like 30,000 active users.

Simple maths means that, if the average GOT member is representative of the demographics of the country ( they won't be, but bear with me ), then

GOT COVID Deaths = 30,000 * 20,000/ 65,000,000 = 9

Plainly most deaths are of people 60+ and GOT users will, on average, be younger than the average age in the UK, and some active users will be from countries with less scary death rates, so it won't be that bad, but, chances are, a few active users won't see us play a game again because of COVID-19.

At first it was anecdotal but more studies are coming back that is an early symptom. Glad she hasn’t got any of the other symptoms and wish her a fast recovery x
"Based on our study, if you have smell and taste loss, you are more than 10 times more likely to have COVID-19 infection than other causes of infection," Dr. Carol Yan, an otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon at the University of California, San Diego Health, said in a statement.

While fever is still the most common first symptom of COVID-19, "this study supports the need to be aware of smell and taste loss as early signs of COVID-19," Yan said. Along with fatigue, smell and taste loss appear to be common first symptoms in a sizable group of patients, she added.

I'm 95% certain I've had it and its been through our household.

Had a horrible persistent dry cough for well over 2 weeks that left me terribly breathless a few times a day. I've always taken 5-6 days to clear a normal cough, and never had breathing problems before. This begun around 2nd week of March and lasted most of the month.

Our 2yo had the cough too, but my wife seemed asymptomatic.

Also fair comment. We won't know much for sure until later. There's a lot of debate in Germany why our death rates are much lower than the rest. I haven't seen full stats on those tested (age would be useful) so for now we don't know.

Cheers matey. It’s weird with what she does, basically her place or work(care home) has it everywhere by the sounds of it, her husband works there aswell as a carer but he has no symptoms. If they both self isolate that place will be on its ass. There is a lack of staff anyway and some of the younger nurses are using this as an excuse not to go in. Fingers crossed she’s sound but she is going to have to work regardless until she shows more symptoms I think.

Dont think many are saying "its the flu". No one sane or not a Trump supporter anyrate.

Its just that the symptoms seem to get wider each week, and as a result, plenty are remembering that they felt rough as a badgers a few months back; ergo, "have I had it?".

Like someone who was, or is, 98 survived it, but some 10, 20 and 30 year olds have perished. Sommet doesnt add up to a lot of folk.
Viral loading or something. How big a 'dose' of the virus you receive..
