Have you ever sung "that song" ?

Under what circumstances would it be acceptable for that song to be played at Goodison.

Our team comes out to the theme from a 1960s cop show that we share with Watford (?). Grand old team gets an airing quite a few times and not just on the terraces, on the tannoy, quite a few other clubs use that too. Playing devils advocate like.
The connection with the traditional folk song, 'Johnny Todd' circa 1890, has been mentioned a few times, and has links to the Port Of Liverpool. The docks had an enormous importance for world trading around that time, hence the TV series adopting the tune for the Z Cars programmes.
A question if I may, was the area that the series was based around called Newtown in the programme? I'm not sure if that was the area which became to be known as Skemersdale. Perhaps somebody could enlighten me.
At the time, because regionally based programmes were quite unusual, many clubs around the country adopted Z Cars as their anthem.
As you state, why Watford still use it is a bit strange, but who knows, it could be 'fan power'. I think the only other club to use it up until recently was Sunderland. Again i could be wrong, so feel free to put me right on that one.

It was first sung by UTD fans at old Trafford after the Munich disaster, the other lot started using it years later, there's nothing original about them, our old ground, utds old song, not founder members of the football league, just a latter day Milton Keynes Dons,I love winding up RS mates with that,

Yeah, cheers mate. Some people mentioning the history of the song like it's been adopted by us for that amount of time. When, in reality it was only adopted by us around the time of Z Cars. In fact, if it wasn't for Z Cars we probably would never have used it. I've always been on the understanding that 'Newtown' in the programme was Kirkby, maybe wrong like.

This is the only version I have EVER sung.
Everton are a club with pride and honour and tradition. We have a motto written in Latin. Our theme tune is an old folk song from this area dating back to the 1800's.

Mate, yes we're a proud club with great tradition, but you can't come out and use johnny Todd as an example of our history and tradition. You do know the difference between a 'song' and a 'tune'? Our theme tune may well date back to the 1800s but there's no disputing we started using it purely because of Z Cars.

“one of the fans, who played PC Sweet on the front desk in Z Cars was an Evertonian; one day he brought a few of the cast to watch the team. In recognition of that, the team came out on the field to the Z-Cars theme, it has stuck ever since.”

You could actually be correct on all points.

In junior high during the Johnson administration, I had a monstrous crush on a certain Vicki M.'s breasts, and she was in chorus. I managed to get enrolled so I could study the situation further, and part of the program was a rendition of that song. I was young and unaware of the implications later in life.

Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa. If you could see how she looked, you'd have been there too. The things you'll do when you're thirteen.

You had to choose between self-respect and breasts, and what did you do?

The right thing. Breasts win every time.

No never, and never will. One time I was with my family at Butlins Pwllheli and Gerry Marsden was on, and I said to my nephew, If he sings that song I'm out of here. Hence his final song was that, and both of us left quickly. My nephew was about 9 or 10, but he understood.
