Said about this in an earlier thread. Martinez hasn't got many things wrong this season, but this transfer window has been a disaster. His words "we will end this transfer window stronger then when we started" seems laughable. We brought in an untried striker who was unfit, has played 60 minutes and then got injured again and in truth probably won't be seen this season. We brought in mcgready, who due to circumstances with his other club, was unfit and needed fitness work to get himself ready for the premiership. As it is I am happy with this signing, but don't think we will see the best of him till next season when he has had a full pre season under his belt.
At the beginning of this transfer window we were still in with a chance for 4th, our transfer window ended those chances. I just hope the rest of this season doesn't fizzle out. Next summer major changes in personnel are required. We have the core of a good side, but are clearly lacking in attacking areas. Lets hope Martinez still has the "I've got money to spend" come the summer.

I didn't even remember about Fer! You've just added fuel right to my fire. We had the money, no doubt about that. You've only got to look at our dealings over the last few years before that January. That, coupled with the fact that we spent about £20m in the summer (need I remind you that buying the £13m McCarthy was not dependent on Fellaini leaving?) means we had no shortage of cash to sign anyone.

There is a claim that the McCarthy purchase wasn't dependent on the Fellaini sale. Personally, I think the fact that we didn't buy him until after Fellaini was sold speaks volumes. If you have hard evidence to the contrary I'll happily back down. In the meantime, the accounts for the previous couple of seasons suggest that we didn't have all that much cash to play with in January 2013 - certainly not £14m to buy Negredo.

With McGeady we are going to have to wait and see. Slow footed wingers aren't really my thing, especially when they cost 9M but Bob has gotten a lot of Irish and scottish players and maybe he can develop something with Coleman/Baines over the offseason. One thing I've noticed when Bob was at Wigan the players needed 6 months before they really hit stride.

As far as Negredo coming here, if City wants Negredo, city is getting Negredo.

As far as Fer goes, I haven't noticed anything out of Norwich which makes me believe that we lost out on some awesome player or something. Bringing someone in when you have limited resources and may or may not be an injury risk is probably something you don't want to do (see: Traore). Plus if we have Fer I doubt we get Barry.

Maybe Jelavic could have developed a rapport with Naismith again when everybody got hurt (then again would Bob have even played Naismith up front if we still had Jela?). However his confidence in a blue shirt was gone. He was exhibit A of players so needed a change of venue.

Hopefully we will target a couple strikers in the 10-20M range and finally put to bed what has been an open festering wound at this club.

I don't believe jan has had a major impact on us tbh. I don't believe the players we wanted were available. Based on that I wouldn't want to go bringing in any old player just to make signings!

McGeady was always a target, so we got that done. Jelavic was moved on, who nots let forget stunk the place out for 12 months and we would NOT have got that money for him in the summer!

Traore was a desperate signing as no one else was available to add to the numbers. And tbf the period whilst lukaku was out Naismith did fine and scored a few. I don't think any striker that was available would have done any better than Naismith has done.

Don't get me wrong a couple of top players in jan would of given us a boost but if there not available there not available.

The summer will explain all I feel

Let's be honest it has let us down, look at 2012 when we had a horrible first half to the season we made postive transfers with Pienaar Donovan jelavic and Gibson we played fine after that January. When players come in with an instant impact it gives the players a morale boost eg lukaku start of this season. By not bringing anyone one in match fit we have burnt out the current 11.

Yeh it has. Speaking of Donovan, what's his current status? Even though he's 32 he's got the class and intelligence we need in the final third, I'd have him here for 2 years.

We need to have a top summer though, 5 new players coming in. How we'll do that with £20m is anyone's guess.

Who are we selling to get that £20m? The sad reality I fear

There was no bid for Negredo. It wasn't even a fake bid, it was just a comment from Moyes saying "We are interested in Negredo" immediately after we had embarrassed ourselves for being so unprofessional over the Fer deal. No bid was made.

I'm fearful of Martinez' 'ability' in the transfer market. Selling Anichebe and replacing him with an older and crapper Kone is NOT good business. Selling Jelavic and replacing him with an injured loan player is NOT good business. It has really weakened our attack.

Lukaku and Deulofeu will be gone in the Summer, and whilst they have done well they are temporary additions of two young players who still have plenty to learn. Keeping them would just keep us at the same level we are at now, and we are not going to keep them. McGeady is nowhere near good enough, not if you actually want to break the top four, rather than just pretending to every season.

I hope Martinez does not continue this trend of buying crap, injured and ageing players. I also think that our playing style is far from entertaining and damn right suicidal at times.

If Soldado was 26 million, I doubt Negredo was 14 million

Kenwright actually texted jim white that after both deals were done.
Not only does he lie to us he rubs our faces in it as well.

Not this fencesitter. I wanna see 25-30m net spend. "I'll give him a few bob". I wanna see that 'bob' plus the money left over the last couple of windows.

If you're waiting for 30m net you might as well get to work on the fume now. I know the math(s) on how you can get to that number ... but this is Everton. This summer is going to be brutal for a lot of people if that is their level of expectation. Of course I'd love it but I just don't see it happening under BK and company.
