In my view, yes. Because:

a) Martinez lost some of his aura and authority with his players and with the fans when he claimed "we'll definitely be stronger at the end of the window". We loaned a crock, got a Championship-winger on a freebie, lost a squad striker and lost a versatile squad defender/def-midfielder.

b) the players' confidence has been affected by this seemingly 'small-time' window. News outlets are now reporting our two hot-property loanees are looking forward to a run at their main clubs next season, further giving players within the club the impression of 'small-time', which impacts on their confidence.

c) the simple fact our squad is undoubtedly weaker now is making us play out-of-form players with no decent back-up to offer competition. We're losing form, Martinez's options are now uninspired and we're losing key games. We're even getting thrashed now (0-4 and 1-4 to speak of two recent losses in very important games).

We're thus out of the FA Cup, and with Man Utd invariably picking up points we're gonna finish 7th at best. With no Europe next season, we lessen our attractiveness of bringing in top loanees to replace the ones leaving us. We're also not in the hunt for the exciting permanent signings, and may lose one or two of our big-name players if a bid is high enough.

The debate might not be if the poor January window ruined our season, it might be if the poor window has adversely affected the potential of the Martinez-era.

I'm gonna vote for the first option, as I have faith we will dramatically improve the squad in the summer and push on next season.

In relative terms, and remembering how we felt last summer: a top 8 finish and quarter-final cup run is what most of us were expecting. But we haven't had decent momentum since before Christmas, and I'm not sure if we can pick it up again with this current crop.

I'm barely hanging on to my conviction that I'm gonna give BK until the end of the summer window...one thing that's keeping me withdrawing my support for him completely is the statement from Martinez that he had money to spend in January and chose not to spend it.

The summer window will put us fencesitters right, one way or the other.

Yes it did.

We won't spend more than £8m net, yet that will be enough for the fencesitters to stay where they currently are.

We should be spending double that net, but not a chance in hell of it happening.

The sale of Fellaini signalled the ambition of Kenwright to me, despite holding on to Bainesy.

A post about a poor January window from a massive Evertonian that defended the January window.

I didn't defend the January window. I was massively disappointed in it, especially at the tail-end as our massive injury crisis affected our form. But I trusted in Martinez, and delayed my judgement on BK until after the summer window.

I've repeated this often enough, or can you vault otherwise?

the injuries when we were at our peak leading up to the derby loss really killed our momentum. I don't know how we could be so unlucky as to have all those key players injured at once

God the picture of that m

God the picture of that man makes me cringe. Yes he has done it again.

I love this forum and talking about Everton, but when it comes to asking questions about lack of progress there is no discussion required.

Not this fencesitter. I wanna see 25-30m net spend. "I'll give him a few bob". I wanna see that 'bob' plus the money left over the last couple of windows.

Fellaini was my favourite player, but I can understand us accepting 27m for him, especially seeing how Martinez likes to play.

I don't get it why people blame BK this window. Cleary it was RMs intention to not spend in January. Aiden McGeady has not lived up to the words RM has spoken about him. Traore has been a bad joke.

Still believe in you Roberto, but learn from this window. COYB!

McGeady is badly rusty, I always said next season is the season for him not this.
