Has Fellaini really got a £22m buyout clause in his contract ?

Of course you have mate, that's why it took until January 2013 for the media to report it as if it was a revelation.

And that's why we are posting in a new 22 page thread which is debating and speculating on whether the clause exists or not.

Even just using this forum as an example, there has been very little discussion regarding a Fellaini release clause before the media reports from the past week.

I just searched 'Fellaini Clause' in the search feature and found 21 separate threads from a month ago or older (e.g before this 'story') which feature both of those terms. If the search function was better i could link individual posts.

Could you two explain how this is true?

I've never seen him be anything more than average.

If we replaced Fellaini, basically an second striker nowadays, with James McCarthey, a badly average (to me at least) midfielder, I will fume until the end of time.

I don't think I will ever get this McCarthey thing. Do people like him just because he's gettable?! I just don't get it.

It's been a matter of conjecture since the day he signed his new deal.

The figure bandied around at the time was £26M.

The fact that it didn't make headlines in the Nationals doesn't mean it wasn't a matter of debate amongst Evertonians. It's only really this season that the media have woken up to Fellaini's talent, he was largely viewed as a big nuisance, all elbows & hair, until relatively recently. So now they're interested in him & want to place him at a 'bigger club' they've taken an interest in his contract etc.
