Barkley was horrible when he came on for Chelsea today. Made one good pass and nothing else. Gylfi can and will get better when this team finally gels.

Both goals were top drawer today.
The addition of Mina and Gomes should hopefully see him get even better. Minas threat from set pieces should make a difference.

I'd rather siggy than barkley, he'll have had a much better prem career.

I like him. I think he’s got a lot of talent and paired with a centre forward who could turn in 20 or 25 a season he’d be more highly valued. The rationale I gave for buying him was his set piece ability which does have to improve dramatically, we’re not getting a returning on that but today I was happy for him. Great to see him bag twice.

Exactly this. His season with llorente at Swansea was outstanding, in large part due to having quality to feed in to. Any playmaker/10/passing midfielder would struggle with the glaring lack of genuine quality in the box currently.

Agree there.

Although I would say even if he's scoring I agree that he does need to do more. I just don't think that 'more' has to mean dropping everywhere like people seem to expect him to be.

Make better runs or maybe be more of an option at times in a deeper position, but then - like you say - it needs others to be switched on around him anyway.

The “more”is the incessant pressing, chasing and harrying he does. Even last season under Allardyce he was the best in the team at it....stuff like that goes unnoticed but it can be infectious and once all the players do it you have the basis of a very difficult side to match. He’s clearly one of our best players technically, but he’s also along with Gana and Seamus one of the hardest workers.

He doesn’t want to be the guy, but we really need him to be the guy. Richarlison has that confidence about him. A change of mentality will go a long way for Siggy (though to be fair, that can be said for most at Everton).
He’s probably the most mentally strong player we have after Seamus.

He's only really effective in a properly functioning team. In part that's an indictment of the limits of his ability. At the same time it means we have a pretty solid attacking midfielder when we play proper wingers and a half decent center forward.
