I know it's a different situation but back in the day there was a lot of "buy guys who can get us into Europe now and go from there." But that leaves you screwed if it doesn't go exactly right.

He might not be. As I said it's just the percentages. You've also either got to lose him at a loss or sign him to an extension that will further push it age wise at that point.

40mil? Doubt this transfer will happen. 28 years old and have little resale value. Age is not a problem but the demand of 40mil from FFP Everton seems very unlikely to happen.

We do need a DMC and I have not heard of a decent DMC link for this transfer window (yet).

They could well be as he's very highly rated - that's about £33m.

However, it's much more likely they'd be open to structuring a deal in a way that Everton might be able to achieve. Which is what is as important as anything and some people still don't seem to grasp is what's holding us back. We've got money, not tons of it mind, but we do have it, we're just having to stretch it across multiple deals. Betis for example might be happy to accept a £13m payment now, then £20m over the next two years, as they have financial issues of their own.

But for now it seems - I'm literally just going off what's been reported - it's merely interest/we've put the feelers out.
