Another “fortunate” break, as I think Denmark beat France in the Group.

I’d swap Bethalter for Southgate straight up. This the best collection of USA individual talent ever but it’s a side without much in the way of personality, identity or character. I’m hoping that they gel but they’ve been not a whole lot of fun to watch. Their last few friendlies have been dire. They could finish anywhere from 1 to 4 in the group and I would not be surprised.

My only real hope is that the friendlies aren't reflective because the intensity wasn't there and it will be for this.

All good here, thanks. Just left the bar in my hotel at 2am to try and get some kip and get my body clock set to Oman time, ahead of Monday’s game.

My experience after one day, is that the Omanis (and the many foreign nationals working here) are just nice people.

Everything comes with a smile. My room is shiz, sounds like a motorcycle engine running in there. Ok no problem we move you to a nice room.

I’ve been out in Saudi and Dubai before for work and hated it. These guys are completely chilled. Ok a bit maniana, but I can live with that.

We're doing a world cup tournament thing at work, and i've been allotted whoever wins this group as my team for the knock out stages. So it looks like my team is going to be England, unless the USA, Wales and Iran can cause a surprise.

He did take England to a semi final at the last world cup and a Euro u20 final as well.

The first result in both games in the group determines the outcome.

Wales lose to USA, England beat Iran. I think it’s all over for the losing teams.

Any reverse to those results makes it far more open.
