Corporate governance appointment is how I see it, he will be managing a team of scouts I’d imagine and making sure they carry out their duties, he will be collating information from his team of scouts iand giving it to Brands from Europe. I think we will see the same in other regions.

I don't have an issue with Brands recruiting someone he is familiar with, on that basis he will know what he can contribute and must rate him well enough.

The guy seems to have quickly found a niche for himself after retiring and got a Masters Degree, that won't help with scouting but at least it shows someone wanting to build a new career for himself and having an idea of how to go about it.

It's a demotion for Martyn Glover a Walsh appointee who is now merely Chief UK scout rather than Chief Scout. I think Brands will still want to have more personal involvement with South American scouting as that seems to be his specialty.

I think this appointment is another step towards the elevation of scouting to a more professional level with a team of people working under Brands overall direction with proper co-ordination and that can only be good.

Gomez (RS) Alli, Sterling and Vardy were just some of the talent that has come from the lower leagues. If Gretar can recruit anyone of that calibre to our club then he will have done his job.

He’s also worked for AZ and is quoted to have extensive knowledge of both local and foreign talents.

I’m thinking it was a moneyball type signing. He scored loads in the Dutch league and was relatively cheap.

The simple truth is that we ll have no idea about this at all. I'd suggest that Brands knows what he is about and he has put this in place to achieve his overall goals, in discussion and agreement with Baxendale and Moshiri.

I know we love knee-jerk reactions, but this has the hallmark of a considered decision for a distinct role, something we have been very poor at in the past.
