2006 as a whole was a pretty bad year, aside from the Edge/Cena feud. The DX return was good initially until they buried the Spirit Squad in a major way and had a far too lengthy feud with Vince and Shane including the hokey Summerslam match that had Big Show et al interfere to weaken DX before the match, which still didn't work. The only true moment of that whole DX run I'm still fond of is Survivor Series when they teamed with the Hardyz and Punk

Yeah, 2006 is a year I like to forget really. 2007 was on it's way to being much better until, well, you know...

2003 was a truly awful year as well. On Raw, Triple H buried Booker T and then feuded with Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash and Golberg

Meanwhile, on Smackdown, Vince McMahon was the focus of the show feuding with Hulk Hogan, Zack Gowen, Stephanie and The Undertaker

Awful, wretched year. Some decent moments but some awful ones too

That being said, I still watched what I could and followed it. Late 2005 to early 2006 I don't think I watched one episode of Raw for something like 7-8 months. Still watched Smackdown, as I was reviewing it for a website, but Raw was just so awful that I couldn't bring myself to watch it

Actually, I do seem to recall Bischoff getting FU'ed into a rubbish truck and I also have faint memories of the Edge/Lita "Live Sex Celebration", but don't know if that's from recap shows or from actually watching it at the time

I definately missed the tournament where HHH won the right to face Cena at Mania

Was 2003 the year of the Katie Vick incident? That was the one thing that nearly turned me away from wrestling because of how messed up it was

2002 that was

Mid 2002 to 2003 was just a wretched time to be a wrestling fan in a lot of ways. WWE was just awful and flopping at the box office

Ah of course yeah it was, same year Kane lost his mask

Found some interesting bits of facts and trivia just now:

Shawn Michaels has won 3 different titles from the British Bulldog, the IC title (on SNME in 92), the Tag Team titles (with Austin on Raw in 97) and the European title (at One Night Only also in 97)

When Bob Backlund turned heel in 94 and became crazy, the back up plan for the angle had it not been a success was to bring back Charles Wright as Papa Shango and have it be that Shango had put Backlund under a spell. The gimmick was also touted for a return in 1997 in a much darker tone with a mask rather than face paint but was nixed in favor of the Kane debut. Wright would eventually be brought back as Kama in 95 going on to become the Godfather during the Attitude era, the Shango gimmick would not see a match until he appeared for UK promotion PCW at their Road to Glory weekender last year

The WWE title changed hands a ridiculous 11 times in the year of 1999, the most in any year, with Mankind having the most wins with 3 (Rock, Austin and Triple H all won it twice with Vince and Big Show the other winners). The only other title with as bad a calender year was the IC title with 12 changes in 2001, Triple H and Edge both won it twice that year

When Kaientai were doing the comedy dubbed voice gimmick, Taka Michinoku's voice over was done by none other than Shane McMahon

The character of Golga in the Oddities stable was played by a slimmed down Earthquake

Hulk Hogan had an 8 year streak of never being pinned clean between losing to Antonio Inoki on a tour of Japan in 1982 to losing the WWE title to the Warrior at Wrestlemania 6 in 1990

Mike Jones's ring names were given as pot shots by WWE and WCW to big names in the business, in WWE he was known as Virgil as a shot at Dusty Rhodes (real name Virgil Runnells) while as an NWO member in WCW he went by the monikers Vincent and Shane as a dig at the McMahon's

Stone Cold Steve Austin had two reigns with both the Tag titles and IC title in 97 and lost all 4 without being in a match. His first Tag title run with HBK was ended when Michaels suffered the knee injury that led him to vacate the WWE title, his second reign with Dude Love and first IC title run ended due the neck injury suffered in his IC title win over Owen Hart while he forfeited his second IC run to the Rock to focus on winning the WWE title

Going back to Virgil and Charles Wright, the latter was offered a deal to jump to WCW on a bumper contract to be a heavy for the NWO (this being during his run with the Nation) only for the offer to be pulled when Virgil offered his services at a third of the price offered to Wright because he wanted to be back on TV badly

Wow almost forgot about the oddities. They were great. Used to get a big a pop than anyone does now and they were midcarders.

Very interesting one about Hogan. I do remember being shocked when the Genius beat him by count out on SNME hahaha

Only Bruno Sammartino had a similar streak to Hogan between losing to the great Lou Thesz and dropping the then WWWF title to Ivan Koloff

What people forget though is that Hogan did a lot of count out and DQ losses during that timeframe so that he could build to a big blow off victory down the line

Compare that with Cena, who pretty much just beats everyone. All the time. It's so hard to get sympathy for him when that happens. Hopefully Brock destroys him and Cena can be gutsy in defeat

I just want a clean win for Lesnar. Not so much to ask, but we are talking about the guy who has lost clean exactly once in the last five or so years it seems, and even then that was to Bryan whilst having the elbow injury excuse.

I liked the heel Cena that first came on the scene. I even enjoyed the hammy raps he used to do.

Now he just bores the living bejesus out of me.

Bring back Tyson Tomko I say.
