Never been (It's in Bexleyheath, apparently) but it's got a boss name

Next up, few doors down from the Emporium is The Famous Old Navy Volunteer, known locally as 'the Volley'.

This place was a tatty old boozer, pretty much on it's arse till a new team came in and gave it a new lease of life. Excellent food and a superb, ever changin' beer range, they often have a tap takeover and (get in!) Liverpool Craft Brewery are tonight's special guests. I've gone straight for their Jade bitter.
Choosing a pint is one to get your head around a bit in here, as none of the pumps or taps are marked, they put a notice board next to the bar. Works for me.

Lovely pub, fantastic beers, great food, log fire, harbourside location, Sky Sports. Might be the best pub in the city.

Marble and Cloudwater too, nice.

The Crown Inn, Stockport. Under the viaduct - the largest brick structure in Europe.

Stockport is a bit of a catastrophe, tbh - it should be a major southern hub of Manchester, where people make pilgrimage to the Holy Source of the river Mersey. Too many planning mistakes have put it down in a hole, though, and it's now one of those places that's gone past 'rough' and arrived at ghost town with boarded up shops and nothing to do.

Almost nothing to do, because quite a few seriously high-quality alehouses have survived, making it a phe-nom-enal spot for bevvying. The Crown is one, real ale pub for years - they'll stick a few hop monsters on for the kids, but it's more for your serious drinker who wants to get stuck into some session ale in a traditional alehouse.

Two places up the road called The Magnet and The Hope which have both won CAMRA pub of the region. The Nursery, The Arden Arms, plus a scattering of modern beer shops. Very civilised for the ale.

Used to go out without girl from Stockport and I have very many happy memories of this pub.

Great write up mate.

The Falkland Arms - Great Tew Oxfordshire.

Cracking pub - 16th Century coaching house in the most picturesque of settings. Good selection of cask ales and single malts...They even serve snuff behind the bar!
