Aye, and even in that 6% range from 20-26 it would mean around 200 calories less for the more efficient rider. I've no idea how they work out the efficiency ranges, nor indeed how you'd work out your own efficiency as an individual. I guess it's just a rule of thumb to give you a reasonably accurate idea of how much you burn vs how much you consume.

Think i'm wrong, looked for the research, defo can't find where I read it. I think i've made the mistake of context switching, I found some info on swimmers and runners showing that the better swimmers used less energy per stroke for example. There's also a correlation, if distance is equal, to less fit individuals expending more energy to complete the same task, basically because it takes them longer.

With regards to cycling, your peak power output is going to go up because you're able to push more oxygen into your system and the way your body uses lactic is going to be more efficient etc, but you're peddling harder so yep you're using more calories. The increased efficiency isn'g going to make you burn less, it's going to make you burn more.

Found a study on runners, which erroneously started off with the same hypothesis that I was spouting earlier, and it came back wrong. Kinda, the study was slightly different, but the conclusion was the same.

There you go, I've learned something new :) Thanks Bruce

Hello.

As you know I go to the gym now. But I have a problem.

I get soooooo bored. I went tonight for an hour and did a decent work out, but say I'm on a bike or something, I just get so bored. Even my boss gym playlist doesn't cut it.

Although the following got me to end of my run tonight:

Any tips to ease the boredom?

It's because you 'work out' and you don't train (y)

If you're training, the time flies by and you're too busy feeling screwed up (weights) or in a rhythm (cardio) to get bored.

Just sitting on a bike for an hour or being on a treadmill is boring as **** and i dont know how people do it. Do High Intensity Interval Training instead.

HIIT works well, lots of ways to do it though. Prefer the spiriting until you think your lungs going to pop out of your throat method my self. You still need to nail your diet first though, or it simply doesn't work.

That doesn't really help

Sorry

Basically if you're working out, you tend to go through the motions and it gets boring fast. If you train with goals, and a set plan, you'll find that you wont be bored. You'll be business like in your approach to getting in and out of the gym.

If you're just going to do some cardio, and would rather just work out, then just try and keep your schedule to 20 minutes on an apparatus. Example 20 minutes treadmill, followed by 20 minutes rower, then go home. Take some Pilates classes, or some spinning classes, anything where you'll find fit chicks basically (y) The fitter the chicks in the classes the less bored you'll be, simple

Nice one :) Reckon you're the man with all this, so good to know things are on the right track.

Is there any different between Cycling and Tredmills?
I have a tredmil at home like but I want to do cycling at the gym. Is there any point in me going when I can just jog on the machine in ours?
