I managed to do a 65min run covering 6miles, the hardest bit of endurance I've ever put myself through.

Good on you man.

Anyone here ever done a Super Sprint Triathlon? It might not sound like much to some of you, but given my past asthmatic issues it'd be a huge achievement. Hoping to do one next year.

Final event of the year on Sunday. It's the oldest bike race in the world apparently, and Team Sky DS Sean Yates will be competing (he's starting 10 minutes before me :) )

Good stuff Bruce.

I used to cycle every day from the ages of about 12-17 and used to have huge thighs as we live on a very steep hill, it used to give me a pretty good work out. Then I got a car and I honestly can't think of a time between now and then were I have ridden a bike. I wouldn't mind getting back in to it again.

I've been to the gym 4 times since Saturday. I can't be arsed spending more than 45-60 mins in the gym any more so I've been doing "supersets" e.g. doing chest press then without rest going straight in to upward rows, doing opposite areas of my body so I'm not goosed. Saves a lot of time too and you're not standing around all the time recovering.

The effects have been pretty good, and Bruce you'll be pleased to know not a single protein shake has been consumed.

Yet.

Riding in a big gear is great for getting big legs. Bit like doing squats. Most of the pros do so called over-geared riding in the close season/early part of the year to gain strength.

I got much the same as you with regards the gym. When I swam I'd go in there for 2 hours at a time. Just gets a bit boring after a while though doesn't it?

A lot of folks forget the diet part though I reckon. There was a lass in the gym the other day, looked a bit blokish to be fair, huge great arms on her. Not an ounce of fat though. Her diet must have been pretty good. You don't get a six pack by doing lots of sit ups. All about the diet.

I done one beards ago not long after I come out the forces. It was something like 1km swim, 10k run, 30k bike.

Ironman is the craziest shizzle I've ever heard of.

You can replicate it to a fair standard in your local leisure centre for whatever distances your going for. Give it a try.

Changing your diet means a big lifestyle change. Going the gym 3x a week isn't really. That's why people don't get what they want from it.
