What was Oviedo like?

I'm not too arsed, we never do well in the Carling cup... sorry, the capital one cup o.0

FA cup seems to be our thing, and i'd much rather us keep good form in the league atm anyway. ALl teams have bad days, and our team was highly makeshift despite what people think

Before the game id of said premier league, FA cup and coc holders, but now I'm thinking relegation, administration and our kits will be changed to red.

We wont win the league or finish in the top 4.
We wont win the FA Cup, cos some better teams are actually interested in it.
This cup, with this team should have been the priority.
Its getting on for a generation now who have witnessed absolutely nothing....

We've won one of our last four games like.

That isn't great. Hopefully it will improve. Personally I am an Everton who judges us on our cup performances because we need to win a cup, league position is always forgotten. So in my eyes half our season is over already. Positive like.

So two different threads (see also A Blessing in Disguise) trying to make it look better than it is. A good Cup (FA or League) run breeds success - all wins breed a winning mentality. I have no qualms with DM making changes to give others within the squad real game time and experience. How many people have been crying out on TW to see Junior, Guaye, Coleman, Naismith etc. being real given game time since pre-season? And let's not use the excuse of a wet Yorkshire night with a lower league team up for it being too much for so many "lesser squad" players to be tried out. They've all played at Reserves, U21 etc in similar rain conditions and teams that put themselves about. The result was unacceptable for so many talented players to justify - the Team as a whole just did not seem to be up for a fight.

My biggest Question though is where was the Leadership? When things are not really clicking (and it happens to the best) that's the time for the big names, the experienced players to set an example. In the absence of PH that meant MF, JH and SD had to get a grip and help the younger players through a bad patch. I did not see any evidence of this - in fact all 3 had a dodgy game and MF looked as if he wanted to be somewhere else. If we can only play when things are ticking well then this Squad and in particular our 1st 11, will continue to flatter to deceive and never realise the potential they have. Unless we have more Leaders and characters who stand up and be counted we can expect FA Cup semi final cop outs, surrenders to LFC etc. to repeat themselves and no chance of DM's "next step" professed ambition.

I Wwll always remain Blue to the end though.

All of us are disappointed about the way we went out last night. If we had played well and had a huge misfortune with the bars and posts and lost due to that it would have been one thing. But since we know that the team can play beautiful and great football it is a shame that we went out the way we did... playing utter crap against a much weaker team.

I'm only happy that it happened early in the tournament so we can focus on the league and the FA-Cup. I also hope that Moyes and the players on the pitch can take something from this game and learn that they need to give all even in a game like this. Put the highest gear in from scratch and have a 2-3 goal lead early in the second half and then rest players and give our backups some match experience.

Leeds just sucked us in with crapness and we followed willingly.

Was it just me or did Coleman look like he was running with something up his bum? Just me probably.

Was going to post exactly the same.

Anyone who thinks it's a blessing in disguise is seriously deluded. We won't win the league. I'll wager we won't finish anywhere remotely near to 4th spot, and we'll stuggle to qualify for the Europa League. I suspect those people might be the ones who've never been to Wembley (or Rotterdam) and witnessed us hoisting a shiny tin pot aloft. League positions don't come close.

The FA Cup is still something the big hitters play for, and it's a big risk to place all your eggs in that particular basket.

In terms of a realistic chance of a tilt at glory - and none of this "League Cup is bollocks" nonsense, a cup is a cup - this was our best chance. 4 more games. Not exactly something to stretch the squad to its limits.

I admit I wanted some of the newer blood to come in last night, but not sweeping changes to over half the side. I would have liked to have seen Oviedo start with Pienaar ahead of him, not Gueye. Junior was a good call for a starting berth, and it might not have worked out perfectly but I need to see more of him to make judgement.

Bad, bad night for us. A missed opportunity.

I now await all the teds coming on to tell me that it meant nothing, and we're still on course for the 7th spot trophy again.

everton fans knee jerk reaction no way never happens!!! listen we were beat on the night the positives were oviedo in the first half looked decent and victoer again was best player for us plus was driving us on good to see negatives fellaini isnt as good in midfield as he is behind the striker heits distin looked shaky maybe thats cos they know mucha is behind them and naismith not sure if he going to improve squad in any way and finally those who said neville sudnt play in midefield again well without him in their were crap!!!

did you watch the game? We wasn't much better in the second half when Neville was in the midfield.

did you watch the game? We wasn't much better in the second half when Neville was in the midfield.

did you? we were much better in the 2nd half. We had tons more possession in the 2nd half - in the 1st Fellaini and Junior were getting dominated in midfield

I didn't see the game but their seems to be a little knee jerk reaction.

We are doing the best we can and all teams have crappy games even United, Chelsea - just hope we learn from today.

We have been playing better at the start of the season than what we have done previously.

I am still pretty pleased but naturally disappointed with today's result.

Harsh!?!?, Get a grip?!?!, myself and 5,000 others who paid £28 and drove in deadlock traffic for nearly 3 hours, to sit in a ****ty ground to watch a victory for the blues disagree, it was beyond poor to be outplayed by a mid-table championship side and blow our best opportunity for a trophy, the players out there should of had more than enough to get a victory last night but seemed largely disinterested in the 1st half especially Fellaini who was woeful and kept giving the ball away(I won't blame Junior he's a kid and could of done with stronger performances from those more experienced heads around him). I've no doubt that we'll recover and carry on well in the league, but that does not mean we'll be put back in the cup does it? You're only as good as your last game and that was just gash.
