However much I've said in the last couple of years that he's coming to the end of his years.

However much I've watched him and feared he's not the colossus he once was.

However much I've not been able to subdue the terrible thought that we sometimes look better without him.

However much I know we have to do this, that this has to happen some time.

When it becomes reality, I can't do anything but think "why now?", "why not another 12 months?".

The rock of the last decade, a player who was once so unbelievably gifted and so strong.

The player I watched twice today put the ball in the back of the net and prove yet again just how good and how damned professional he is.

Even though I groaned at the chance from 30 yards that he would have buried six years ago, but today he passed on to someone else.

It's idiots like the Kong and Keegan who will say he is.Dudek won them that European cup as much as Gerrard did but he rarely gets mentioned a decade on.
