My childhood hero became my manhood envy. Great man, incredible footballer, great servant to the club. Hope we see the rest of the season off with some silverware at least.

Just glad he didn't do this towards the end of last season because the FA and their refereeing arm would have undoubtedly worked to gift him the prem (even more than they already did).

Should have retired years ago for England but just his presence could seemingly still win games for Livrrpool although now usually through his impact on the referees ratheryhan his right foot.

A good big game player for them but lacked the consistency to be classed anywhere near the true premier league greats never mind Liverpool greats. Reflective of their entire club and fanbase, he was so bitter that his obsession with beating Everton or United or Chelsea meant that he wouldn't turn up for Villa or West Brom at home. The ultimate cup player but could not impact the league even in teams containing Carragher Alonso Mascherano Torres and latterly Suarez. Glad he is gone just so our bottlers have one less thing to choke about when they go to Anfield.
