Gerard Deulofeu

Let's hope he doesn't have to walk back from Milan, will need to stop for a few hours every 15 minutes of walking, won't be back till he's 30

He's a lightning fast winger; read an interview today with Ryan Fraser and he said he hits a wall at 60/70 minutes due to the way he plays. Granted Geri has stopped taking people on as much but still, I think his stamina is improving it's his commitment to the press that's currently lacking. Few months getting smashed about in Italy will do him wonders!

Stones, Barks and Del were my favourite players. Stones has been replaced by Davies in that pantheon. I think Del may get replaced by Lookman. The balance shall remain.

He is a talent that there is no doubt. But he has played for a number of managers in recent years and has been unable to nail down a starting berth in any of them. That should tell you something. Such a shame as talent wise he is right up there, but obviously lacks application and fitness to be a consistently good player.

I have said this before much earlier in the thread, but that point about loads of managers not trusting him doesn't hold that much water under examination if you look at the circumstances of those clubs when he was there.

Barcelona - had Messi and Neymar ahead of him, then when he went back after his loans Suarez was there as well
Everton (loan) - was one of our best players during his loan spell, only that injury set him (and us) back
Sevilla - started well but didn't fit into Emery's very successful system. Made no sense to accommodate him to that system given that he was on loan anyway.
Everton (permanent deal) - by the time he came back Martinez had convinced himself into playing a patient / bollocks style that didn't suit him (or us for that matter), used him sparingly and played worse players in his position like Lennon and even Cleverley and Osman on occasion. Koeman has picked him on the odd occasion but then dropped him afterwards, usually because other players screwed up (Watford away, or Leicester at home for instance).

What he needs is a run in the team; however gives him this will benefit from it. I just hope its us because we will look very stupid indeed if we let him go.

Problem with him is mate, he can last 60-70 - but only in those games when he doesn't really ever try go past players regularly etc and is pacing himself massively to last that long, and that takes away the best parts of his game.

when he opens up from the start or as a sub - he's goosed after less than 30 minutes ...

Loved the player, like the way he is with the fans etc love the skill he has, but some athletes just don't have stamina - hes like a distance runner competing in the 5k who blows up after 1500m

A good half season in Italy will just confirm to him he doesn't need to put the effort in and he can rely on flashes of brilliance alone. I would love to see him come back a more mature player and play a part I just can't see it and I think it would take a lot for him to change Koeman's mind, he doesn't seem the type to change his opinion easy.

Good players can adapt to different managers and systems. I'll be honest mate, I think you're looking for excuses as to why Geri hasn't 'kicked on'. I really like Geri and we have seen glimpses of the undoubted talent the lad possesses, albeit only rarely. Forget the managers, the main reason Geri hasn't progressed into the player we all hoped for is down to Geri himself.

Ahh, how different that is to your earlier attitude toward Deulofeu eh?

Lol.

Key word - 'could' Dave

and actually i think Geri is by and large very well liked by the fans, it's why we are wishing him luck and generally a bit sad he hasn't developed at all since he first arrived on loan, such a shame

I'm goaded constantly mate. If there's anyone here who has tried to shift the RM stuff into its rightful thread more than me I dont know who it is.

TBF, I have publicly and privately thanked you for that.

But pretty much the whole page was warned. Made sure no more serious stuff would have happened.

Sad it hasn't worked out as he clearly is a very gifted player but he doesn't fit in the managers plans and we have to accept that. I hope he does well for Milan and finds a club in the summer for a big fee. I would love him to play a big part in our future success but I don't see it happening so get as much money as we can for him in the summer.
