OK, so he had a decent run of games once for a spell and did the business. But when you offset those 3 months against the rest of his entire career, it's not really that impressive is it?

Wes Morgan and Robert Huth were two of the best central defenders in the premier league last season for a spell. Doesn't exactly make them Baresi and Costacurta does it?

Any player can show a bit of temporary form, it's keeping it up that separates the wheat from the chaff!

Jelavic says hello and agrees with this post

I'm not saying his career has been impressive. Just that when he's been given a fair run in the starting 11 he's delivered, big time.

He didn't even go out of form either. Lennon had one good game when del was rested and that was that... No more starts for Del. It was utterly bizarre and the strangest thing Martinez did during his time here.

Mirallas, Lennon, Bolasie have never hit form like Del did during that 3 month period last season.

It was no surprise that lukakus form and goal scoring dipped as soon as deL was out of the team.

The one and only time he had a run of games was last season and he was by far our best player during that period, with the second highest amount of assists in the league (behind only ozil) despite having played half as many minutes as everyone else on the list.

People seem to conviniently forget this ever happened.

We don't at all. But it was 14-13 months ago now. He hasn't done anything of note since then and that's not just down to game-time.

Del is a 2 steps forward, 1 step back player. Does something good but never follows it up.

you can't be consistent without being given game time consistently...

And the one and only time that happened, he was very consistent.

In a totally different way of playing to how we are now...

Where would Del have fit in the side that started Sunday, for example?

He hasn't got the striking instincts of Kev, and he can't play at wing-back (not that we should expect him to).

He can't play as a wide forward as his finishing is atrocious.

At the moment he offers something different from the bench if neefed. Nobody else does with Bolasie out. We can't sell until he's replaced.

A.K.A. now haha.

lol yeah true enough

Guessing that koeman has a load of contacts and pull at Ajax still, so be interesting if he does go back there for any of them.

Dolberg looks the gem there though, shame the likelihood is he will probably spend the next 3-4 seasons being sat in the reserves or famred out on loan when some CL club buys him though
