That ‘unrelated topic’, has a Police Force which purposely sets out to kill certain individuals, has an Executive imposing new laws to classify certain actions as actions against the state and therefore punishable. Not unlike what is happening in the USA with Trumps classification of antifa. The actions in HK are just tougher and more harsh than those in the USA, yet the world does not protest. China imprisons, re-educates and uses slave Labour of minorities and the world still does not protest. You see it as unrelated, I see it as a state practicing racism and using coercion and the threat of ‘disappearing’ as an even more intolerable form than is happening in the USA. If what is happening in China is acceptable to all the various ‘campaigning’ groups, then do not be surprised when more authoritarian actions take place in your own countries. Racism comes in many forms......

If you create a climate whereby increasing constitutional damage is excused because it suits an immediate agenda, undermining the sovereignty of politically elected representatives, while branding the independent judiciary as enemies; alongside advising people to 'move on' when responding to indiscretions which allow those in power to face little or no consequences for their actions which others are subject to and deifying cults of personality - then don't be surprised when more authoritarian actions take place in your own country either.

Great to see so many businesses and individuals change their images on social media to blank images. By great I mean absolutely garbage and demonstrates the absolute rock bottom political grandstanding that society has become. I’m sure the blokes parents will sleep easier knowing Karen has changed her boutiques Facebook cover to black and she’ll care just as much about the challenges faced by minorities in the US this time next week.

TBF these cops have been put into the position where because of their lack of equipment, and having the wrong sort of equipment (ie: firearms and baton guns) to deal with riots makes shocking images like that (and worse) far more likely.

Look at him and the rest of them - no shields, no protective overalls, not that many gloves even and all appearing to be carrying deadly weapons, so if they have to go into the crowd (or the crowd gets to them) there is a good chance someone would try to have their guns away.

The end result is that all they can do is shout, warn, point and if those don’t work, shoot. That a picture like that gets taken is probably one of the better outcomes.

Over here, or even in Europe, there would just be a line of cops, all properly kitted up with shields, and being able to just stand there and be shouted at until they were told to do something.

I know they have an extra risk of being shot at but to put cops into that situation whilst making it much more likely they are going to have to shoot someone is unjustifiable.
