wtf
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has confirmed a report by The Associated Press that some of the service members who were mobilized to Washington, D.C., last month in response to civil unrest over the killing of George Floyd were issued bayonets. Defense documents obtained by the AP show some were not trained in riot response. Members of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, which is based in D.C. and typically guards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, were mobilized last month to respond to massive protests over the treatment of Black Americans and systemic issues of police brutality. But they were never actually sent to the protests after they arrived.

The soldiers were issued bayonets for their June 2 deployment — but told they were to remain in their scabbards and not attached to their service rifles, Joint Chiefs Chairman Army Gen. Mark A. Milley wrote to two U.S. representatives in a letter that was obtained by the AP. The soldiers were also told no weapons were to enter the capital without clear orders and only after nonlethal options were first reviewed, he said.
Why issue them at all then. They are not standard anymore and if anything i doubt the Marines and Army ( only branches that still have them) even bring them to a war zone. Although the train with them they rarely equip themselves with them.

What were they expecting?

When this was a rumor lots of current/former military were saying the same thing, never been issued with them before despite many overseas tours.

Absolutely mental.

Err no, the profile required to confirm my email address and then said I should setup an avatar so I did. Instead of 75% complete my profile is now 100% complete.

You are never serious about anything. So from now on I'll assume every post you make is a p*s*take or a bad joke. Like your knowledge on all matters relating to the US. Bad.

you know for a while I thought you were some annoying Steveo wannabe and was wandering where you were. All the while you were there all the time giving me grief. If I knew it was you I’d of giving you more respect.

Probably. BLM seem to think they have the monopoly over racial injustice, while pushing whatever political message they wish to pursue.....
It’s a big problem with activism in general. The original message is always a good one then it is corrupted by power hungry hypocrites that hijack whatever movement people are fighting for.

It then becomes political and you see things like the Chaz and the people just going out of control in general. Politicians cave to the mob and the goal posts will keep moving, hence most normal people start to resent the movement. It’s why I was particularly upset when the Chaz happened. I knew it would kill the BLM momentum and we’d get nowhere. Yet again

Trotsky's life needs to have (another) movie made out of it; his time in Mexico hanging with Diego Rivera, one of the great muralists, while having an affair with Frida Kahlo, and also surviving an assassination attempt by David Siquieros (another great Mexican muralist) is quite a saga! His great granddaughter Nora Volkow is quite accomplished physician and headed up the National Institute on Drug Abuse in the USA; she grew up in the house where Trotsky was assissinated.
