Motte and Bailey tactics.

1. "DEFUND THE POLICE" - you want to abolish the police? That's crazy.
2. "that's not what I meant. We should move some funds to social services."

Repeat ad infinitum until you get this:

1. "DEFUND THE POLICE' - *crickets* OR "Dang straight!"
2. Say goodbye to your police, and hello to the "Seattle Autonomous Zone"

I'm convinced that these people want to see more deaths and soldiers in the streets, because they know that's what it's going to take to get Trump out. Seattle is playing out the Evergreen State College scenario on the scale of a major city. Words cannot express how much I hate to see this.

The concern is this

Matter has been pushing for a “people’s budget” that allocates just 5.7% of the general fund to law enforcement instead of 51%.

Massive drop. I'm not

It's not just some money, they are asking for most of the money to be taken away.

I know bad teachers. I bet folks in hospitals know who the bad doctors and other professionals are as well. I bet the winners on the Everton squad know who is holding them back too. What keeps all of us from talking and making a fuss about it?
Sorry mez, I dont buy that analogy.
In that analogy, the bad cop is sitting in his cruiser in an alley snoozing, or not filing paperwork because he's lazy, or maybe putting in for over time he isn't actually doing.
In this situation cops are killing innocent defenseless people.
The analogy would be if nurses or teachers were killing innocent defenseless people.

And what if they were? Maybe not intentionally but in ways. What would you do? Defund hospitals and schools?

Any confirmation? Could just be a random guy making stuff up.
Could be. You've obviously not read it though. A lot of the intimate knowledge of things in there suggest is isn't just some random. They also go BTL to comment that they're looking for a way to prove their authenticity beyond doubt without endangering themself and their family.

I'm talking about intentionally killing innocent defenseless people.
What do I do?
I look at the culture of nursing and teaching that allows this to happen.
I identify the causes of this culture and try to change them.
If part of this means that teachers and nurses are over stretched and performing roles they are not qualified to perform, I look at defunding that part of their job and using those funds to hire suitable qualified people to do these jobs.
If part of this means that bad teachers and nurses arent identified and fired, I question the union that protects them.

Which Confederate flag? You know what the battle flag looks like, but that's not the genuine Confederate flag. As a baseball little leaguer in the 60's I played for a team called the 'Cannon Rebels', sponsored by a local pol named Clyde Cannon. We had that battle flag proudly displayed on the left sleeve of the jersey, as we demolished every other team in the county on the way to an undefeated season. That was about 55 years ago.

We had a pitcher that went on to get a cup of coffee with the Oakland A's. He threw about a dozen no-hitters that year.

As that flag has become the equivalent of the hakenkreuz, you get a funny feeling in the pit of your stomach. I was 12. Was I the baddie?
I have my leaflet from The Confederate Memorial Hall Museum in New Orleans that lists 10 flags of the Confederacy , until then I assumed the battle flag was the official one.

Seattle’s hard-Left secessionist movement has claimed its first territory: six blocks in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

For the past week, Black Lives Matter and Antifa-affiliated activists have engaged in a pitched battle with Seattle police officers and National Guard soldiers in the neighborhood, with the heaviest conflict occurring at the intersection of 11th and Pike, where law enforcement had constructed a barricade to defend the Seattle Police East Precinct building. Hoping to break through the barricade, protesters attacked officers with bricks, bottles, rocks, and improvised explosive devices, sending some officers to the hospital. At the same time, activists circulated videos of the conflict and accused the police of brutality, demanding that the city cease using teargas and other anti-riot techniques.

Then, in a stunning turn of events, the City of Seattle made the decision to abandon the East Precinct and surrender the neighborhood to the protesters. “This is an exercise in trust and de-escalation,” explained Chief Carmen Best. Officers and National Guardsmen emptied out the facility, boarded it up, and retreated. Immediately afterward, Black Lives Matter protesters, Antifa black shirts, and armed members of the hard-Left John Brown Gun Club seized control of the neighborhood, moved the barricades into a defensive position, and declared it the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone—even putting up a cardboard sign at the barricades declaring “you are now leaving the USA.”

In a related question, has anyone here ever been to the Battery in Charleston? Secessionist movements end in violence.

I never understood these Confederate flag types. I hate that flag. Hated it for decades before all this stuff popped off. It's a shame it took this and not years, of black americans simply pointing out that it is offensive to them.

My dad went to college in South Carolina in the 70s. Was always called a Yankee, and got a bunch of crap.

I went to school in Texas, got less of it, but still got it as a New Yorker. I'd see the flag on trucks, people driving around with "sons of confederate veterans" license plate frames.

They always say this is our history. Pretend like they are more patriotic than everyone else. But they are representing the biggest rebellion against the union, a culture of the worst oppression. I just don't understand it. People were burning that flag at protests in my city, not usually a fan of flag burning of any kind. But I didn't mind it at all.

Everything that flag stands for is wrong. It's like doubling down on being on the wrong side of history

Completely agree on all. But I always thought aesthetically the confederate flag is better looking.
