Haven't read through this thread, but lemme guess: A few predictable Trump-supporters here are trying to temper the outrage with their home-grown, can't-connect-the-dots logic about "burning buildings is bad" as if one event isn't connected to another, or that in the spectrum of massive amounts of structural racism, quid pro quo somehow doesn't translate to murder --> looting.

Likewise, I havent ready through the whole thread yet.

Good to see the police officer having been charged. His history raises questions too about how he must have been supervised, mentored, additional training etc and to some extent why not dismissed at one of those earlier instances. However without all the details it's hard to speculate.

Nevertheless, at what point does one think it's ok to destroyed businesses, buildings etc in the name of protest. I fail to see how it equates with itself.

At the end of the day, it's not right.
It's not right George was killed at the hands of those police in those circumstances. But I just don't see how they looting etc supports the cause.

The line that really gets me in that statement is "any potential intoxicants in his system". Any "potential" intoxicants.

Thank god the guy has been charged for it. Being a cop in the US though I would not be surprised if he gets off
That and thIs one -
Kueng checked Floyd’s right wrist for a pulse and said “I couldn’t find one”. None of the officers moved their positions,
They knew - they all knew and yet stayed like that for over two more minutes without any attempt to revive him.

Should be 1st degree

Fully agree, the murder should be hit with 25 years and the other 3 tried as an accessory. But any homicide charge right now is a victory, as even with video footage of police commiting previous murders, nothing has happened to them. Hopefully this acts as a major deterrent to others.

untill next week when some unsuspecting black person gets dragged out of their car and forced face first in to the dirt for failing to use their turn signal.

Exactly. Have you seen the video if them pushing a 90 yr old black woman to the floor who was trying to protect her terrified grandson who had about 6 guns pointed at him?

Remember Botham Jean who got shot in his own apartment by an off duty policewoman who broke in and afterwards claimed she thought it was her apartment? They got a search warrent and tried to blame him smoking weed in his own apartment for his death

Think if he does get off then there could be extremely ugly scenes like LA after the Rodney King verdict.
No matter how many peaceful protests, no matter how many sports stars take the knee to highlight the massive injustices black people face, the U.S. will continue as is in my opinion. Too many generations raised to hate others for no reason then skin tone. It wasn't that long ago the Ahmaud Arbery video was released, something as disgusting as that incident should spur change in the systems of power. But just one more in a long line of constant abuses of power.

White America really needs stand along with black America and clearly say this is enough and back it up with whatever action is needed to bring about real change.

The problem is when these protesters use the generic label "white people" as their enemies, which is happening a lot.

It makes the "white people" sympathetic with their concerns think "well screw you then". Rightly so too as that's simply the opposite form of racism.

It's not a "white people" problem; it's a cultural and institutional problem.
